Formula 3 carb kit needles still available...

For anyone interested:

I ordered some Mikuni jets recently and decided to ask for the Formula 3 carb kit needles (5EJ48) as well, just on the off-chance (I had always thought they were long since discontinued). Imagine my surprise when I was told they were in stock!

I decided to wait until they arrived, just in case there had been some misunderstanding. However, I have now received them and they appear correct.

I bought them from Mikuni Topham in Germany. The price was 11 Euro each.

All of the other Formula 3 carb kit parts are still fairly easy to get (the needle jets are 166-series I think, although 159-series should also work), so anyone wanting to convert their standard carbs should have no trouble.

Mikuni Topham said there was a seller mikuni (Bihr) in France and that I must address myself to this one.

 I ask a friend who has a good contact  at Bihr to order the needle ...
 Bihr response : the reference can not be sold, it is reserved for yamaha seller

I had the same problem. Wanted 610 series needle jets for one of my bikes. Heard Topham could get them, contacted them and they told me to contact my Mikuni specialist in the uk (Allens Performance), but they can't get the 610 series needle jets which i why i contacted Topham.

Sorry to see you're having trouble buying these needles Toop  . Topham seems to stock quite a few parts which aren't available anywhere else (including Allen's UK and Sudco USA). If Topham has an "agreement" with other European Mikuni dealers, surely that agreement would allow for Topham supplying the parts to these other Euro dealers  ??

Can you find anyone in Germany to buy them for you? I will offer to help, although the postage will be expensive (Germany - Australia - France)  . Let me know if I can assist.

I note Jools' comment about Topham perhaps getting low on stock - is anyone else having trouble buying these needles?

I haven't done the F3 carb conversion on my TZR (yet), but I do have all the bits if/when required.

However, my SDR has a TZR 2XT carb which is F3-converted - works great!

Anyone know what net benefit is of the F3 needles?
