Tatty but easily restorable, as long as its complete.
It looks like you will be up for a crankshaft check/rebuild looking at the piston damage, plus a re-plate of the cylinder..........

It does look complete and worthy for a restore, is it a real RS? That makes it a bit more special, only a 1000 of those.

2t racing in Japan is possibly reproducing them they just started recently offering R/RS crank rebuilds to bad they won't sale the seal seperately. I also found a shop called inoue boring that does plating - boring  and crank services is now reproducing nsr 250 mc21/28 con rods.

Let's see if I get a reply if it's available through them.

Tried emailing them as well to find out if they sell the seal separately, the mails just bounced. Maybe its sorted in the meantime. Let us know if you get a reply :)

Yeah was afraid of that. Doesn't look like they necessarily deal with individuals from the public. Probably only want to deal with dealers in bulk..

Maybe a group buy to entice them..?

Okay so it is $5 per seal min order quantity is 100 seals! Made from vitron material that's  $500 usd. Who wants to help out? I don't even own a r/rs i got a spr only inquired to see if I got a response.

Well, what with the fact they were £17.15 each and the current exhange rate it works out at 5 seals for the price of one, assuming you could buy one, which you can't.

I have just had my spare crank rebuilt but put me down for $25 if it happens. I'll put them in a box just in case I live long enough to afford to get the crank in the bike rebuilt....

I bought an oem one years ago, that was around £25 back then for me...yamaha I guess needs to pay rossiís salary  :-\. Anyway I'll take 2 or 3 seals with the same caveat as yan ;D

Maybe theyll sell less if you explain itís a low turnover item?

Dumb question, apologies, but how many seals are needed for a crank rebuild on the R model ?

Oops, I think I misunderstood, this is just the center seal, the crank uses one only. Then there are separate left & right seals. The group buy for these finished a while back, see the thread here  http://pure2strokespirit.net/forums/index.php?topic=5286.0 . Perhaps one of the UK guys will sell you one of theirs?

Back to the restoration thread...
