Title: Ignition Coil
Post by: Bob the B on July 10, 2018, 08:45:43 PM
Where would I get a new OEM Yamaha coil from and how much should I expect to pay?

Alternatively can anyone recommend an upgrade (racing?) coil? How important is it to match up the primary and secondary resistance to the Yamaha spec?

Try Andy Tempest (YPVS250 member on here) at Webbs of Lincoln, mention you are a member of this forum and get a 10% discount.
Don't buy a cheap copy,it won't last, or the Dyna Coil brand as it's not in the correct resistance range.
Very Important to match up the primary and secondary resistance to the Yamaha spec.

 Hi,
Are you saying that you've scrapped the complete "waste spark" ignition system on your 2MA? - If so do please tell me ALL about it ! :) - While I love Yam sports strokers I H8 the way they are built down to a price ESPECIALLY the waste spark" ignition system which is SO cheap & nasty with LOTS of unpleasant consequences if you want to tune up your engine. The crux is that tuned engines run hotter so you have to use extra petrol & oil for SUSTAINED high level performance & the "waste spark" system simply isn't up to the job - sigh!
While this thread I did years ago was mainly about uprating the ignition system on an aircooled RD350 there might be some useful pointers for you:-

These guys might be able to provide you with a coil with the correct primary and secondary resistance.
