Title: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: Warwick on August 04, 2012, 04:45:14 PM
I've consolodated the models due to similarities - and to avoid the larger number of options. feel free to be specific in posts of course.

A while back the garage looked like this..

1 x R, 2 x RS, 2 x SPR...

I've scaled back to just 3 now  ;)

Mine is all wrong  :-[  Lowers are the wrong color (does not match the upper), stripes are the wrong direction, should have a black color design on the bottom and have "Racing Sport" under the TZR.  "Pure 2-Stroke Spirit" is on my tail piece  :)  It should look similar to this...

Where can I get this decal set?
Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: Warwick on August 07, 2012, 05:28:14 PM
Yes, there are two different shades of white used on different models for the oe bodywork - silky white and bluish white. If the tank, upper and tail pieces all match, maybe just wait until some used oe 93 RS side fairings turn up if you want it all to match? Don't know of any aftermarket decal copies for the 93 RS, but I'd imagine they are still available from Yamaha, (along with the correct TZR decals) so that might be an option? I don't really do 'concourse' though, so it's not something I've ever seriously looked into.

Not sure yours is really a 93 RS though to be honest? Forks and swinging arm aren't in any case by the look of things? What's the motor?

Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: jcsnook on August 07, 2012, 07:39:10 PM
It's a real Frankenbike Warwick???  The frame number say's it's a 93 RS, but that's about all.  Well, and now the title says it is too 8).  I know the forks are not right, I didn't know the swingarm was wrong tho ::).  Oh well, I'm not overly concerned about it being concorse either, it's a rider/runner.

Motor is a standard "R" model with a wet clutch :(  I've not yet installed my Martin ported top end and Sugo CDI.  I just need to get new wrist pins, small end bearings, piston pin C clips and gaskets.

What's the major diffences in the swingarms?  Just the aluminum block adjusters?

Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: Warwick on August 07, 2012, 07:50:28 PM
No, I wouldn't worry about any of that stuff either, Jim. All parts are effectively interchangeable, and any combination of bits can make for a great 3XV. Condition, level of maintenance and real world performance are all more important than either bling or originality to me  :).

Re: the swinging arm. I think there are some differences in the internal bracing, and the structure at the mounting end of the arm? Looks like there are effectively at least three slightly different swingers. For the road, it certainly won't matter a jot which one you have though.

Hi guys ,

i have a 3xv SPR , it is a racebike from Malaysia and has many sugo parts on  it . I have been side tracked for a while busy with another bike ( 93 tz250 ) . I hope to add a few photo's of it while i get her back into winning shape again  ;D

cheers , Neal

Mine is an R, fully race worked porting, pipes etc. 36mm carbs, sugo slide and needle etc, no airbox, UNI foam filters, IGNITECH CDI, TZ throttle, full nut and bolt restoration

Paul,

That looks (and sounds) like a bad-ass bike!!  I take it it's road going bike, not a track bike?
Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: Paul on August 08, 2012, 05:19:37 PM
hi jcsnook
yes, it's a roadie. i need to take it to a dyno, but it is still work in progress, i have some new heads i want to fit first. i had a set altered for o-rings and a 0.95 squish (1.2 std, i tried 0.75 and it didnt work)
i have also removed the autolube and run premix 40:1 (when it's hot i go to 35:1), i upped the pilots for this.
the bike is an absolute cracker, i love it to bits, and to think i was going to get "rid" of it a few months ago due to the CDI issues (i was one of the first with Dan (maccas) to try a Zeel on a 3XV) i was convinced yamaha had put a gremlin in there to stop it being deristricted. turns out now (after i quit zeel and went to ignitech) that it was a wiring diagram problem from manufacturer. :o

added without thinking earlier: i see your bike above, nice one, is it standard?
Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: jcsnook on August 09, 2012, 03:27:21 PM
Paul,
It's a Frankenbike  :-\  Frame number specs a RS, however I'm learning it has more standard R parts than it has RS parts.  Wet clutch motor, silver non-adjustable forks and rear swinger apparently are all standard R  :-[

I'm going to fit some Martin ported barrels and SUGO cdi as soon as I get the needed bits and gaskets (and money) ::)

Well deja vu all over again! Forum after forum after forum lol. I hope some of the info from the last 2 forums can be saved!

Here is my 92 RS 3xv8 with 92 SP 3xv5 SP engine:

Like Paul had trouble with the zeeltronic for a long time but thats all sorted now thank god!

Spec is:

Stock 92 SP engine just cleaned up and refreshed with pretty much all new consumables. Barrels matched into cases, cases cleaned up and tidied. Replated barrels new pistons, new SP crank. Powervalves matched into exhaust duct.

Martin77 expansion chambers, lomas stainless cans.

Stock SP 36mm carbs, running VAJ and TPS and powerjets (not electronically activated at the moment)

Stock SP airboxes apart from SPR -20 airbox to carb rubbers (gets rid of 28mm orifice plate in -10 airbox to carb rubbers).

Stock -10 SP reeds no reed lift modifications etc.

Zeeltronic PDCI-20V cdi and powervalve controller mapped by James at Krazy Katt.

Only other real change is a ZX-9R fuel tap as it is a direct replacement for the stock item and does away with the vacuum crap on the stock one.

Running premix at 40:1.

Had it on the dyno again the other day, more work to come but looking promising:

Green is when I took it in april, red is as it is now.

Hi Dan , what did you do to improve thhe graph ?
Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: maccas on August 15, 2012, 02:54:45 PM
Hi Neal,

The major change was fitting a set of stock 3xv-10 cylinder heads. The heads I was running had been cut for lower compression compared to the stock items. The increase in compression doesn't seem to have harmed anything and a nice increase everywhere. Obviously the ignition curve was tweaked slightly to suit the new heads as was the PV curve and carburation too.

More work to come in the future, it goes like s**t off a shovel now though  8)

My 3XV9. Bog standard except for pattern screen and a resprayed tank (which is not in the correct white). I need to POR15 the tank as the paint is bubbling at the top-front then get it resprayed properly.

I would like to do the stage one (porting) over winter and possibly get some new pipes, however funds will dictate.

My biggest regret is not buying one of those ten SP cranks. I live in fear of a  bearing going pop.

i wouldnt use por15 to line your tank its not very good and the ethanol in fuel eats it !
there are other products on the market that have been develop'd for bio fuels .

The Caswell two part epoxy is great stuff.  I coated my 3XV fuel tank with it, and it worked great.  It's very thick and moves very slowly inside the tank, so be patient, or thin it like the instructions tell you you can, that may make it easier to apply.  I ended up having to use the remainder of the sealer up to do a second coat as there were some areas I missed the first time.

I have not heard that the POR15 does not hold up to the ethanol fuels?  I coated a Kawasaki Triple tank with it, before I knew about the Caswell stuff.  Have not used it yet, but you've got me nervous  ???

Opps, well I have already bought it so I will give it a try as there website states it works OK with the new StageII high alcohol fuels. Is your experience with POR15 recent as they might have changed the formula?

I've already coated the inside of the Kawi tank with the POR15, but...have not yet put any fuel in it yet.  The bike is being restored.

I am currently running the 3XV tank that was coated with the Caswell sealer, and can attest to it's success! 8)

. its just of late with the por 15 the ethanol eats it ,gets under it and it starts to flake
it used to be spot on ,but now we wont use it ! if you want to go ahead but i will say i told you so
you can buy some stuff that disolves it

Okay... :-[ What dissolves it?  May as well re-coat the tank with the right stuff before it's painted.  I don't want any trouble with it.  I wonder if I can Caswell coat over the virgin POR15? ::)

dan your bike looks great, the curve even better, it that a 4 stroke 3XV? :D couldn't be better. i have a set of heads to try here to, in my gut i want to get the most out of the head gaskets which cost a fortune. new heads have TZ oring cut into them.

yanw, all you have to worry about is your tank!! lucky you. ::)

Hi paul,

Cheers, yeah it certainly rides like one, drives along nicely from as low as 5k on the tacho, really getting a shift on at 8k. It would probably drive from lower than that but the pilot jets are too big and its dog rich down at the very bottom.

What fitted volume will the new heads be?

Dan
Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: Paul on August 17, 2012, 05:20:24 PM
hi dan, they are std heads with squish trimmed to about .95, i am not sure if this is the case yet as coker is in cape town and me here near durban, (although i had better check the volume if did any work to it) the work is good but measuring the squish will have to be on the bike. i can always use engineering shop here to fine tune.
thinking of getting a lathe to, i won honours at school for fitting and turning back in the day, a few years before the 3MA was released  :D

When recoating your gas tank from failed Kreem or POR-15 tank sealers, remove the old, failed coating using a paint stripper containing Methylene Chloride.

We have 32 from the poll.
I know of 4 belonging to non members.
I have1 in bits I intend re-building + a rolling chassis that will be my track bike soon.

That's 38 so far, please add if you know of any............

most of us are european (not resident but race, you know what i mean and not race as in kyalami but race as in... blabla) owners, i think 95% of these bikes went to japs, indonesians etc, the eastern world.
only a handful were imported into western countries officially.

Roughly speaking, the R is the base model, no adjustable suspension etc. RS same as R except for a dry clutch (some later RS'ses have adjustable forks). SP's have fully adjustable suspension, dry clutches, close ratio gearbox and better porting.

Hi Guys

First timer on the forum, so apologies if this is in the wrong place.  I'm after a bit of help regarding frame numbers to identify a bike.

I've got a friend in Thailand who's found a bike from an old guys collection, we have the numbers:

frame no 3XV 002396, engine no 3XV 011400-38.  No pictures yet.

Is it possible to figure out what the basic bike model is?

Cheers

Nige

Yes, I recognize the bike as well.  Before I found this forum, I emailed him a few times seeking help when I first got my 3XV project.  Always loved that bike, wish I'd known he was selling ::)

Where in the US are you Brad?  You've got a couple of sweet bikes there!

You know you can get your location to show under your avatar picture, just type it in under the "personal text" field in your profile.

Cheers Enzo  ?:-|

Look here: http://pure2strokespirit.net/forums/index.php?topic=329.0

The main differences are the standard R models do not have fully adjustable suspension, have smaller diameter forks, have wet clutches, have a different swingarms, different gearboxes then the SP/SPR's...etc.  There are differences in carb sizes, porting, bodywork (subtle, colors, markings, etc), radiators are thicker on the SP/SPR's.  The RS models are an in between model between the standard R and SP/SPR's.  They have a dry clutch, and some have better, more adjustable suspension.  The SP/SPR's have fully adjustable suspension, close ratio gearboxes, block adjusters on the swingarm, etc.  All models from Japan were restricted to 40-45 HP depending on the year tho.

I'm sure others here will clarify or note other changes that I've missed.  ???

Going back to POR 15 Eyrey, I've done a couple of LC tanks and an FZR tank with no problems. Petseal was the most useless I've used. Now you've brought this to our attention I'll have to keep an eye on them. Hello Yan (just up the road). Hope the 3XV is coming on well.

Hello there,I own a 1993 RS model(3xv9).
It's sitting for a long time, but I think now its time to get back on the streets :D
I'm planning for some mods like handmade exhaust pipes, ported cylinders, modified heads and im thinking about lectron carburetors, otherwise 32mm mikuni's from the SP.
I've already have a 3xv-91 CDI and im thinking seriously of ignitech.I hope for more than 50hp for start :D
Cheers

Welcome Lef16.  Hope the long sit didn't create many issue for you.  You'll find lots of info and lots of help here on this forum from guys de-restricting and waking up their bikes as your wanting to do.  Good horsepower can be had with your stock 28mm carbs.  I'm producing 57rwhp on my mongrel with stock 28mm carbs, Jackal pipes, ported barrels and skimmed heads, upper airbox mod and a SUGO 3XV-70/80 CDI.  With a programmable box you'll be able to get there...not sure what a -91 box is tho?  Do you mean -9A?  If so, that is not the box you need for your powervalve setup.

Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: Lef16 on January 01, 2015, 03:04:44 PM
I meant 3XV9A,sorry for my rush!
The bike is intended for public road use.I dont want the max power rpm to be more than 10200-10500rpm.As I can see in your dyno chart your max power rpm is about 11500rpm.I'll try to get big power in-about-low rpm from the pipes and I'll keep the timings as low as possible!
You use '91(3XV70) or '92(3XV80) CDI?
I read somewhere(I dont remember where) that my 9A CDI opens the YPVS at about 7400rpm...too high :( Ι want the YPVS to open at about 6000rpm.What about the 70 or 80 CDI?
I think that my stock bike is resticted from the 3XV60 CDI box,and also from exhaust pipes.
Happy new year and sorry for my English :D
Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: jcsnook on January 02, 2015, 06:36:57 AM
Your English is fine...no need to apologize.  The SUGO -9A box is made to operate the guillotine style powervalves on the later model SP/SPR bikes, not the drum style PV's like you have in your bike.  I did the same thing...bought the wrong box for my bike, and had to find another.

Mine is also a road bike, and is still very streetable with this setup.  Your bike is restricted in several ways, but with enough fiddling, it can be made to make good power, and be more fun.  Pipes, porting, cdi, speedo, etc, are some of the ways the bike ishop is restricted.
Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: Lef16 on January 02, 2015, 12:50:17 PM
You use '91(3XV70) or '92(3XV80) CDI?
How do they work? When they open the PV?
I've seen redandblue(tzr-250.de) made 70hp on a 3XV6 with a stock 3XV60 CDI.
Cheers
Title: Re: Which model/s do you have?
Post by: jcsnook on January 03, 2015, 06:59:01 AM
I don't think there is a decernable difference between the two boxes really, -70 or -80, as far as I know.
I don't know about the PV timing on the SUGO box lef, sorry.
That is some feat to produce that much horsepower with such a restrictive box.

Very good luck for registering it in France.

A friend has registered a UK RZV500R few years ago but this was much simpler because the RZV is almost an RZ500.

Hi Jamie.

I made this variable ratio quick turn throttle with the stock piece, plastic strapping and J&B Epoxy almost two (2) years ago, today. You can see from these two pics how it was constructed. What you can't see is small groove cut into the added plastic to center the cable action. There was also a bit of engineering (Dremel work) needed on the stock throttle housing. This single-pull throttle leads to a dual-pull Venhill junction. I run pre-mix, so no oil pump to control.

It works. The bike picks up nicely and progressively, cutting about 1/3 from the full stock action of the throttle. Mine is a track only 3xv. I'm not sure how this mod would hold up for a street bike, but its been solid on the track.

Cost: About $2 USD.

Thanks for your question.

Steve
