Lightened generator flywheel
« on: October 03, 2013, 02:40:50 PM »
Just thought it might be of interest to some of you guys to know that we lighten standard flywheels for the 1KT and 2MA (as well as for a lot of other bikes).

The process includes lathe and CNC work and looks like the photo attached (the marks around the curved edge were from someone beating it with a hammer or something prior to us).

If anyone's interested in improving the throttle response and acceleration / deceleration in this way then let us know.

Cost is currently £50 + VAT + carriage.

All the very best,

Interesting...  I'd be curious to know about the 3XV flywheels as well.
If your not mixing gas, your not hauling ass!

It only improves when you are free reving the engine, there is no difference while riding the bike between a cut down one and a stock one. I did a test on a dyno long time ago and there was no sign of quicker acceleration with a cut flywheel. The weight reduction is 3/8 of a pound which is pretty small compare to removing 1.5 pounds from a crank assy or a few pounds from some aftermarket wheel sets.

Bling factor of what? No one will see it as everyone puts there engine side covers on and on the TZR's most people have fairings on their bikes. 8)

Also too the one pictured above needs to be rebalanced again as they have been removed from machining. This will cause vibrations and wear out the left side crank bearings quicker.
