Okay, sometimes fate plays its little hand and deals you a lucky break.

For ages I have been looking in to getting aftermarket pipes. The 2MA OEM exhausts each have the weight of a small child and even though are recognised as being very good for performance I just felt that the added weight didn't help and I needed a bit of a 250 GP note ;) .

I kept looking on ebay and everything was either too much or scrap then I saw a pair last night just five miles from me for £200.

They had no collars to mount them to the barrels or springs but they looked in great nick.

So today I went to see them and they are even better than in the pictures. I made an offer and the seller accepted.

So, what to do about the collars? Luckily Gibson Exhausts are 35 miles from me so a quick trip to them with the pipes and they made me a set of collars there and then. Had a good chat while I was there about exhausts in general and also tried to work out what I had.

The main man there reckons that they are made by a company called OX Racing but I can't find anything about them. What i do know is they came from a 1KT that was imported from Japan last year. He said they are very good quality and for the money an utter bargain. He reckons they should perform well without sacrificing too much bottom end but should also offer a very fruity exhaust note ;D .

Regarding jetting he reckons that it could be okay on standard but to play it safe go up a size or two which I will do. Any opinions on jetting will be gratefully received.

Anyway, on to the pics 8) :

Number one two stroke rule:
If you change anything then jet up a few sizes so that it misfires and then come back down until it is ok then plug chop to fine tune.

The guys that don't follow this advice are the ones with collections of holed pistons.

I agree if jetting has been tune previously then modification => up in size.
But if bike is stock other wise then Yamaha setting is richer and normally no jetting changes if the only mod is a set pf pipes.
My 1% though...

On your set of pipes, I think the only missing parts are :
- springs
- little metal tabs to hold the springs on the cylinder.

The only fitting issue I think I will have is with the spring holes on the flange.

The holes are blocked by the barrel, I.e. they sit flush against the metal. I think I will try and file a small indent on the top side of the hole on the rear so that the springs end sits in the recess and can go through the hole fully but there is still a good gas tight fit underneath the spring hole, I.e around the barrels exhaust port exit, if you follow what I mean!! Just need to buy a very small needle file or a dremel.

Post a picture of the flange.

alternative solution : spring hooks

They do remind me of OX pipes as well, they are somewhat similar to the 3ma and 3xv models..

I think they might be SS ishi pipes. The cans look very similar to ones I've seen before.

I got a set of pipes identical to those on my TDR when it came in from Japan even sound the same but my cans are bare alloy. An extra lug was welded on the suit the TDR mount. They pull hard and sound great but I just took them off to fit high level JL pipes.

Hello Paul,

Looking at your end cans they look familiar. but there was something (wrong) with them.
From memory they had two different types.
One with a big (normal) inner diameter and one type with a (to) small inner diameter.

Just To be save, you could remove the silencers and measure the inner (tube) diameter
Better to have it 23mm or bigger then to small (to small might give you problems)

Good luck with the pipes
