I'm very impressed with this build. I'm sure it has embarrassed a few bigger bikes :)

Hmmm, interesting. Is it worth trying some type of extension tube/trumpet between the carb and the filter (if you have space) to see if the vacuum can be improved?

There isn't the space for a spacer, the filter already butts up against the frame, but anyway I'm not overly concerned considering it actually carburates very cleanly and responsively, it's just a surprise the size of jet needed! I also have a 32mm RGV carb to try, which should be much simpler to jet. Might work well with the 170 kit too.

To be honest, it hasn't really met any other bikes round here.. Devon isn't very busy like that.

Hi Martin,

I like the pipe design... Did you design it for the engine porting or it is based on your TZR250 2MA pipe?

Maybe interested in a pipe for my DTR200 supermoto project.

Looks great Martin.

This bigger engine in small frames Things is very tempting ;D
Interesting with the jetting. My mito was using higher jet numbers then everybody was mentioning as adequated, just by using car ventilation filter material as airfilter. Same with the 3MA.
So... TDR is now parked then  ;D

At the moment the pipe is my slightly higher revving 2MA pipe, but with a larger stinger to suit the 170cc top end. I may have a go at a custom pipe at some point, but for now, it seems pretty good. If I did a DT200 pipe it'd have to be an underslung type, I struggle a bit with hydroforming tight corners..

The TDR still comes out to play sometimes 8)

Craking bike Martin,
Interesting to see you using the Athena barrel...with good results.
is there a calc for how wide you can go with he exhaust port width v bore size ?

Hey Andy.. yeah, bike is really nice with the big bore on it, lost about 500rpm up top, which might be no bad thing, but cheerfully pulls an extra tooth on the front. The stock RS radiator seems to just about cope..

Exhaust port width limit is 73% of the bore diameter with good rings (measured straight across). So 56mm bore is 41mm and the 65mm bore can be opened up to 47mm. Although in the interests of safety I've stuck with 45mm for now (70%), same as the standard RD350.

Martin, had a good look at the pipe.
Looks really good. Do you remember how long it is?

Yup, but this pipe won't be as fat as your project one will be!  :P

Nice project Martin,

does your missus actually get a look in or are you continually developing?? ;D

Re the paint not taking, have you tried using any of the isolating primers available ?
They do need a good key into the original surface though as the final finish can chip dramatically
Plus ce la change, plus ce la memchose

Ahem.. sometimes I put the higher bars on so she's more comfortable on it, but she barely rides it...

I did try plastic primer with no joy, it's almost like it's porous as the pant had large blisters underneath it. Eitherway the fabric one seem to be holding up best so far..
