Classic Bike Trackdays - Spa 2017
« on: July 10, 2016, 03:25:53 AM »
I have just returned to Oz after the Bikers Classic at Spa last weekend.

Brilliant weekend, apart from the weather was its usual Ardennes variety of rain, cloud & sun! (Nothing like the Donno rain though!)

Stayed overnight at Dover before catching the 8am ferry to Dunkerque, getting causht in the rush hour Melee around Brussels and arriving in Francorchamp around 3pm. The que to sign on was its usual mental mile long which saw us signed in and at the F1 garages around 4.30pm

Classic Bike Trackdays had organised for 3 garages with about 50 riders/bikes attending mostly from the UK including the Wiz Rotary Nortons competing in a classic Superbike Race. They provided lunch, tea coffee and biscuits during the weekend and it was excellently organised.

So good in fact that I am planning to ship my 3MA back to enter myself next year. My son has moved to a new house in Spondon with a massive garage so that is where the bike will be stabled as my European track day hack.

There is a date cut off for the trackday, which is split into  6 sessions. These were (roughly from observations)
Sesion 1   - older small capacity classic bikes
Session 2 - classic superbikes
Session 3 - Italian bikes
Session 4 - post classic superbikes (P&M, Harris big 4 strokes etc)
Session 5 - 2 Strokes all capacities
Session 6 - golden era superbikes up to about 1990 ish

We stayed at a small hotel in Francorchamp. a shared room with breakfast for four nights was around Euro380, which also included my extras of 3 evening meals and the beer!

So here is hoping I can get a spot next year !!

Let me know when you're booking Jools.
I might be up for that. I think I'd build a spare engine for it.
the twins:-
TZR250 3xv
TZ250 4DP2

All being well Neal.
I need to get the final set up for the 3MA going back to the original carbs with the weaker slides not that I have a good base setting.
Probably the last opportunity b4 the Island Classic where it will hopefully be loaded into the UK teams returning container  ;)

You thinking of going over ?

I won't make it this year but next year I want to do the PI classic , leave my bike on the east coast somehow , do Barry Sheene event in March , then the kiwi leg at the end of the year . That's the idea at the moment

I don't think our TZR's would be eligible. My LC is only just old enough....

Category Classic motorcycle
 a)    road or racing machines, 2 strokes or 4 strokes, 250 cc minimum constructed between 31/12/1949 and 31/12/1982.
 b)    race motorcycles post classic 2 strokes (e.g.: Yamaha TZ, Suzuki RG,...) constructed between 31/12/1972 and 31/12/1990.
3XV-1 Trackbike
TSA Pipes
30.5mm Carbs
Modified Airboxes
Zeeltronic Ignition System

3XV-1 Trackbike #2 project......

Sounds like a good event Jools. I am planning to go to NZ this year so will be picking your brain about how to make that happen.
If you need to you can leave your bike at my place Neal, I am only 13 km from Eastern Creek.

Believe me, there were reverse cylinder TZ's and V twin TZ's running. Don't be too honest on the forms......It doesn't appear to bother the Dutch guys  ;D :)) The 3MA fits into the category ok.

I may be up for this, I want to run the TD3 when its finished and if its ready in time the TZ250 N, speaking to a few peeps about this and others like Chimay, they will find a slot for you, as Jools said nothing is too accurate age wise......
1 x TDR250 Black N Yellow
1 x TD3 Ready to Go
1 x TZ250N Ready to Go

Booked my spot through Classicbike track days but they only have 40 spots and 20 already taken.
Price may be a bit rich for some of the tightwads on here  :)) :)) 506 quid including the FIM insurance for 3 days.
They do lay on all the food and drinks during the days though.

Local Hotels in Francorchamps are filling up quickly too.
