3XV gear peddle to borrow?
« on: October 11, 2018, 12:26:35 AM »
I want to try a 3XV gear lever on the 3MA to reverse the gear shift. The stock set up will not let me do it without cutting and welding. But a 3XV lever may work and if it does I know I can still buy new ones from Yamaha so I can swap between road and race pattern if I need...

I just want to borrow one for a few days to try it out... Obviously I break it I buy it.... I will pay for postage if you have one I can use...

Cheers guys..

It's easy enough to use the 3XV lever (it fits straight in the 3MA peg as shown here, but 3XV pegs are neater and fit straight on the 3MA hangar). Shown below using the 3MA peg in road pattern. You'd need to move the shaft end linkage round 180 degrees for race pattern if using this kind of set-up, but there may be other ways of doing it using the 3MA linkage. I preferred the long-rod set-up.

Don't think I have a loose 3XV lever to loan you though, sadly.

Going to call SES tomorrow and see if I can get a TZ250 94 onward gear lever. I think it may be an option I just need to check the shaft size is the same or if they have a bearing to make it work..

Looks great! You might need rearsets though - unless your feet are very small?  :o :))

It works.....

I can possibly get SES to do them as a kit but they will need to shorten the lever length 30mm in my opinion.. So to do that I would need to order a number of them.... So I may just get a company to do a shorter one off for me unless other people fancy having them for their bikes....

I have a plan to do a test to get the length correct... But it is a proof of concept and the lever ratio is good as the lever throw is a little less and feels more direct. So tomorrow or Wednesday I will have altered it to use for now and I will look at having a new lever made to the same geometry but shorter. Luckily I have friends who have CNC equipement and Mick at Promach could do a one off if I wanted but he is busy with production work like SES... SES do have the splined actuator arms though and Pro Mach dont.  So if people want them I would have to use SES for a production run of them with everything set up ready to use.
