3xv frame - alloy finish or painted ?
« on: February 11, 2018, 11:34:50 AM »
im rebuilding a 125 4hw and wondering what to do with the frame.Im not keen on the original colour scheme (black with purple wheels) and prefer the red/grey scheme on the 250 3xv model.having said that,i would prefer to keep the frame the anodised aluminium if i ever wanted to go back to original.
Heres the issue - the anodising is looking a bit tired.if i polish it up how do i protect it,i cant see anyone re-anodising a used frame for me ? and what is the original finish on the 3xv models- i have seen some with painted frames, alloy frames, red, black or white wheels !

Here's all the original 3XV colour schemes http://pure2strokespirit.net/redandblueftp/model_history/tzr250/tzr250_model_history.html

Metalic grey powder coating looks great, as on the original 3XV1

I think the original 3XV frame finish is black anodised, but as you say, it would be difficult to get a frame re-anodised.   Satin black powder coat might be good, or a chrome effect powder coat if you want a bit shiny without corroding.  You can go with any finish you like, as it is your bike :-)

Just a tip that the chrome powder may not be the best option.  It comes out looking a bit plastic-like and likely would not be the best looking finish for a frame.

All the frames are painted, the silver ones as well. Super thin layer of paint so they scuff easily.
