Travelling crack repair update
« on: May 27, 2018, 07:04:37 PM »
Hi guys, did a repair to the rear panel of my r.s following the various bits of advise, as per the previous link, thanks again guys, it may help someone else like me whos never attempted a repair before. Step 1.drill small hole at end of crack to stop further travel ( bit un nerving!). Step 2. Apply selotape to decal side to stabilise crack and prevent glue travelling through drilled hole.  Step 3. Rough up area on inside of fairing with dremel grinding wheel.  Step 4. Grind channel along crack using dremel grinding disc,( be carefull not to go all the way!) then clean with acetone. Step 5 cut repair mesh to size and manipulate to fairing contour. Step 5 knock up j.b weld and apply liberally, then push mesh into it, wait 5 mins and it sets right up, push mesh down again when glue stiffens up. ( fairing must be kept level while glue goes off as it moves about) step 6 remove tape from decal side and the jobs a goodun, will touch in the drill hole on the decal side, happy with the repair overall, could be refined with practise, well worth doing though, r.s fairings dont grow on trees. Thanks again for the advise.

Nice work. Tight seem. Drilling the hole was a crucial step. Good luck on finishing it up.
Brief, fleeting Glory. Which of itself cannot last, but while it does is the greatest game of all.
