OEM v Aftermarket Reed Valves?
« on: September 16, 2018, 09:53:43 AM »
Hi

Whilst my motor is on the bench, I was thinking to change the reed valve petals, as they are currently the 30 year old originals.

Is it worth choosing some after-market types such as Boyesen Dual Stage - or better to stick to OEM Yamaha parts?

Any suggestions or experiences welcome.

Cheers.

If it's just the petals, keep with stock Yamaha. I've never been convinced by the boyesen reeds in a 2MA.

Thank you for the replies.

Martin, I will follow your advice and go for Yamaha reeds - the bonus is they come in cheaper than after-market anyway!

Same as you, I used the boyesen reeds in 2MA too, I came back to the original yamaha. On these engines the clamping is elsewhere
