My modded TDR250
« on: November 08, 2018, 08:52:51 PM »
I bought this a couple of months ago because I like my R1z but it's too physically too small for me.  For HHGTTG fans think Vogon on the back of a gazelle.

It's unregistered and started but wouldn't run.

It's in tolerable condition, as in it's all there AFAICT.  Whilst I like supermotos I dislike square headlights and nosecone fairings so these will both be changed, along with the tank.  I reckon it looks better with underslung pipes too

The wheels are TZR250 AFAIK, 1KT/2MA front and I'm not sure about the back.  It's a 3MA swinging arm.  Help with identification or confirmation would be welcome.  Is there a list of wheel codes anywhere, I've not found one.

TBC...

A very odd rear sprocket set up:

The offset is so far out of line with the engine sprocket the inner sprocket has had its insides cut out and mounted on the outer sprocket.  this will be cured by a narrower rear wheel, currently at a friend's house on the mainland waiting for me to collect in a couple of weeks.  I'll need to faff with spindles or bearings to get it to fit.  It's the same size as the one fitted to my R1z.  Suitable spacers will be made by me, possibly even fancy captive ones.

The carbs were filthy but cleaned up well enough by the power of ultrasonics:

Having done a bit of research I'll be disconnecting the carb heating tubes.

Pin holes in the tank, currently at the welders being dealt with:

Again, TBC...

Soon to be much cooler. My plan is to get it running and then see what else need doing to it.

A really stupid idea that occurred to me at about half three this morning was to fit a 3XV engine into it.

Yeah I like those jackals a lot, the swingarm looks like it should be there.  8) The sprocket setup looks like a 2 speed bicycle, you should put a Shimano shifter on the handlebar hehe ;D :o

Identifying specific parts is something I have to do.

Is it is just the stingers that are Jackals, or the expansion chambers too?

I'm still learning all the various engine and model code permutations.
