Thoughts please
« on: August 30, 2020, 12:58:46 AM »
ran the tzr up to temperature at around 3,000 rpm and after I switched it off I noticed a pool of oil under the bike. The oil was clear so not 2t so can only assume its the engine oil is there a breather that it may have come from?

Any ideas as to where to start looking

wipe the bottom of the engine off. run it again and just watch where its coming from. might take a warm up to get the oil thin enough to leak.
Oil drain bolt, right case cover gasket, centre of cases or even the seal that goes around the drive . hopefully not a crack or damage and just a leak
but at least you can take two positives from it , its not 2t oil and its leaking out not in.

Hi nf have you checked the engine oil level ? I know you had ridden it before (some time ago ) but wondering if it had lost oil previously? And maybe not noticed - I cant quite remember what you had done regarding engine rebuild, was top end fresh ? Or full rebuild? Hope its something simple.  (-P)

Thanks guys yeah think ill need to run it up again I did run my hand around the bottom of the engine seemed ok but it did seem to be around a breather hose but whether it was coming from it or just running down it was hard to tell. The bike was on its side stand so maybe ill start looking at the gear change or drive sprocket.
And engine/gearbox well it's all engine lol
Still at least I can take the Bonneville out again while I'm looking for the leak.😁

If you read the first line on the first 2 posts, they both say engine & engine oil - but glad it amuses you  :))

Just wondering if its the gear change / shaft seal is that an easy fix ? Like able to replace in situ ? With cover and sprocket off of coarse..

Well isn't that just sods law took the fairing off ran it up to temperature and no oil leaked out. On the plus side I've just got some new reeds so can fit them although the inlet rubber is looking cracked I don't suppose I can get a new one though.
