3XV40 vs 3XV00 Cylinders
« on: July 22, 2024, 08:19:49 PM »
Hozit Guys

I have my eye on a 3XVB that has 3XV40 cylinders.

My current 3XV-1 has a set of JL exhausts I want to slap onto the 3XVB, but I heard the 40's have a different configuration for exhaust ports.

Can anyone with 3XV40 cylinders perhaps send a picture that I can compare?

Attached picture of my 3XV1 port.

If you mean the cylinders off the SP model.
If you don't have the sp heads and power valve then the answer is no.
Pipes would also need different header spigots.

I thought I had more pics of the 3xv B sp cylinders.
What you're after is 3xv00 standard R
3xv10 91/92 SP with the sp heads and pv
3xv30 93 94 RS better porting uses standard R pv's better if you can get the matching RS 3xv50 heads. Better dome shape.

Pics are 3xv40 3xv B stuff.

I am buying a fully original, running 3XVB.

Want to fit my JL pipes that is currently on my 3XV1, but by the looks of the pictures, I will have problems doing that.

Any idea where I could find the correct header spigots for the 40's or a drawing to perhaps get them made up?

The flanges are a bit messy, three different parts. You can make your own based on visual inspection, they just need to fit inside the cylinder exhaust port with a sealing o-ring. This can probably be one piece instead of the OEM o-ring and gasket (27 and 28)?  Then the outside bit then just needs to accommodate the JL flange. That said even getting those parts to fit still means the mounting holes on the chassis likely won't line up.

It may be easier to do away with the flange and see if you can get it to fit in the same way as the Sugo pipes, ie, directly into the cylinder with an outside o-ring and some suitable bits that slide over the JL's? Maybe mount the JL's and see where they end up in terms of distance to the cylinder and work from there?

Hozit gents

So I sold my JL's and I sent them a set of flanges to design and manufacture a SP set for the 3XVB.

They came back and said the need a 3XVB cylinder for distances and measurements.

If anybody has a 3XVB cylinder in any condition, please let me know.

I can't help with a 40 cylinder, but I am heartened that JL want to do the job right and re-calculate the design to work properly with the porting and flange arrangement, rather than just bodging the existing pipes on. 👍

I have one with a piston and powervalve as well (cracked port bridge). It belongs to a gent in Ireland who I was supposed to be making headers for but I have lost his details.

I can get it shipped if you PM the address etc.

I am going to cast some R headers this winter, I need to CAD some 3D prints for the sand-casting. If this is your barrel please comment/PM here so I can get it back to you/make some proper SP headers (after the R ones).

Can anyone confirm if the 3XV20 and 3XV40 are any different.

Purely for the purpose of designing an exhaust?

The port looks the same to me.

Some Sugo bits for a SPR

This is what the flanges look likeā€¦
The 91-92 SP had a cast flange, and the 93-94- also had a somewhat similar cast flange
Although the OX racing pipes I have on my 3XV2 are purposely built to eliminate the flange and simply bolt to cylinder.
