Are you copying the right link, Wullie? You need the 'img' code - the one at the bottom of the various links below your piccie. Either copy it in using the image button, or just copy the the 'img code' from below your image (you kind of have to hover over the pic for the linking options to appear now it seems) and paste it directly into your post.

Should work...

Yup, it does. Ah, summer! Why hast thou forsaken me?  :D

Looks like you are doing a very nice, clean methodical job there  - and you look a bit like Nial Mckenzie too! You have the later crankcases with extra lube hole for the centre main so that'll be useful for the longevity of the rebuilt crank.

Great stuff. Try the above for posting pics though (do it from the main overview page rather than opening the pic to full size), it's generally very straightforward.

Eh... Warwick, added & reamed out the oilways myself. :D  Its my interpretation of the modification !!
And, as for me looking like Niall MacKenzie, I'm not THAT good looking !!

Anyhoo, I'm having another go at linking up to Photobucket !!

EUREKA, cracked it at last !!  :O

Lots of carbon here ! (Both heads similar).

New pistons & rings needed methinks !!

Getting serious now ! (nicely posed, don't you think ?)

Not much crud in here after 15 years use, thankfully. (Gearbox oil pump filter screens).

Close up of added, (by myself), lower oilway for centre main bearing. Both centre main bearing oilways & L/H main bearing oilway opened out with a taper reamer.

Another view.

View of underside, new oilway at top.

The new gearbox bearings. I've replaced the most highly stressed ones in the 'box, as a couple of them didn't feel right.

New R/H balance shaft & new L/H output shaft bearings fitted.

New R/H input shaft bearing fitted. It looks like the old ones  been starved of oil & overheated at some point, or spinning in its journal ?? !!

Thanks for the help Warwick. After looking at all these pics., you'll be wishing you hadn't bothered.

P.S. Hoping to get to Ashbourne this year, work permitting.   :D

Ah, OK, nice work! Thought there must be yet another type of '2 hole' cases looking at those. Useful mod I'd think.

I see you've sussed the photobucket bit then... :D

YES, FINALLY !!   :D  I don't do photo links often enough to remember what to do, but after the nightmare I've had the last few hours, I'll never forget now !!

Anyhoo, If anyone's interested, here's the link to all the other photos I've taken of the strip & rebuild so far, (plus some others).
Hope you learn something, especially if you've never seen the guts of a 3XV before.    :D

The RD club rally is no longer held in Ashbourne. They tagged it onto the VJMC thing at Uttoxeter last year (didn't make it as it clashed with a trackday I'd booled). All new venue for this year. Info here: RD rally '09 details

Not sure yet if I'll be going due to other commitments, but it's generally well worth making the effort for. And someone's got to keep the 3XV end up...

Thanks for the heads-up Warwick.  :D  I may be working up in Morayshire again this summer. I'll have to find out if work will clash with the RD Owners Club bash too.  ???  Any idea when the VJMC show is & where ??

good pic's wullie, going to nick the oil way idea if you dont mind lol :D .
Is it a nightmare to get the gear's out or is it easy ?
Want to blast the gearbox/heads/barrels to get that "factory new" look back again. Safer with the gear's out !!

No, its a dawdle.   :D     I'm going to get my cases bead-blasted too, (I might as well !!), but I've built up the cases again & sealed all the joins with grease, the old gaskets & seals, bunged up & taped any holes, & fitted any external fasteners into their locations to stop grit getting into the threads !! I'm waiting to get my barrels & heads back, from Martin77, to finish closing it up for bead-blasting. I haven't got photos yet of this part of the rebuild.

Look up my Photobucket album link in this thread, (after the half dozen photos you come across first), you'll see a couple of photos of the gearbox in there.   :D
Your not the first, & you wont be the last, to nick the centre oilway mod. idea. I nicked it too !!

I checked the pic's out already, that's what prompted me to ask. Im doing the same with my gearbox. Stripping all the internal's and bolting everything back. I work at a powder coating firm so i get to use all their gear !! :D
What did martin charge for the barrels and head's ?
If you dont mind me asking that is ?

I've asked for a "stage 2" type road tune from Martin77. It's not quite the full SP model porting job, as my bike's primarily a road bike, with a stock R / RS crank, and I don't want to risk over-stressing it. I've been charged £100.00, plus a tenner to cover postage back to me. He charges £100.00 for the S.P. spec. tune as well.
I hope Martin doesn't take the hump with me revealing what he charges !!

JOOLS, having taken time to asses the 3 hole mod., I thought there were too many holes, too close together, in a highish stressed area of the front crankcase, possibly causing cracks eventually !!  Went for just one extra oilway, at bottom of recess under the original, and opened them both out with a taper reamer. Any oil should run straight down the weld line & down the new oilway. L/H main bearing oilway was also taper reamed out, to (hopefully) improve oiling there too.    :D

Wulli

these cases have done 2 seasons racing, suffered a seizure and had a centre main break-up.

This was a mod I read up here long long ago. The TZ cases come like this as standard.

HAving said that two holes is better than one.........er, don't take that the wrong way  :D

None taken mate :;):
I understand where you are coming from - I just figure that the TZR is less stressed than the TZ so any upgrade mods carried out would be less detrimental - to a point that is.
I have also lightened the balance shaft & ignition rotor and had the crankcase reed faces machined to improve primary compression.

I saw what you did to your balance shaft on a previous thread a while back.
Having handled my own one, (balance shaft that is)   :;): , I could do the same, & save about a half pound in weight too !!   :D   "Every little helps", as the TESCO advert says.
How many millimeters did you remove from the 'case reed block faces ?
Did you have to fit shorter reed block / inlet rubber fasteners as a result ?
