I just thought I would post a few pics on the current bike and where its at.
Having just moved into a house with a double garage I thought I would have plenty of space..............No of bikes in progress is inversely proportional to space available  :D

Current racer - 91 TZ roller, TZR SP swing arm SPR engine with TZ ignition and rotor/stator. 38mm powerjets, TZ pipes
reverse cylinder TZ seat.

97 TZ on floor and SPR (not forks ) on bench - recognise the seat Yuri ?

One stagnated LC racer - still awaiting its crank.....enuff said !

No Glyn,
just a standard ported LC. YPVS are not Forgotten Era eligible down here. I have a TZ350A cylinder I might fit down the line if I can find a matching head though.

After a frustrating Monday at the dyno we couldn't get it to run properly. Coughing & missing as it was revved up, blue flames coming out the exhaust, quite spectacular !
Hopefully we pinned it down to an ignition problem and specifically the 4DP CDI. We tried varying the timing with no effect.
I wanted to fit the old TZR stator, rotor, CDI to prove this but as the original stator mount boss on the casings had been machined down to fit the TZ stator this was a bit difficult............

My spare CDI is out on loan so I will be taking the suspect CDI to the track this sunday for a mate to fit to his TZ and check out for me. I'll do the same with the coils while I'm at it to prove those.
Moral ? don't build a bike from unknown ignition parts... :p

Update:

no matter what I tried, couldn't get rid of the misfire so the TZ CDI must be cactus. I couldn't fit the OEM stator/rotor/CDI to test as the cases have been machined to take the TZ stuff.....

So yesterday I pulled sugo loom and -9A CDI from the 2nd bike and fitted that to the race bike retaining the TZ rotor/stator and regulator.
I had to fudge a few bits in, the servo is at the front so i stripped one of my old sacrificial looms to extend the wiring, and the TZ generator only has two wires but the connector to the regulator is the same plug. All I had to do was find out which the spare white wire was and ground that at the other end.
Hey presto bike fires and revs much crisper without backfiring.
The servo is not working so I need to check out the wiring there. plus the ignition was set at a safe 1.5 BTDC for testing so I could probably reset that around 1.7 now.
Just need to get that TZ CDI tested & repaired.

Warwicks recent comments (elsewhere) have shamed me in to making an effort !!
The TZ frame & forks have gone to make way for a pure TZR race bike now. The chassis is SP I think ( 3XV-045303)  as is the swing arm.
Got a second tank which is hopefully better than the other riddled item. Just need the time now...........

Bloody hell! I didn't think anyone actually listened to any of my bullshit, Jools

Good work, Sir! Who needs TZ stuff anyway?

I managed about an hour in the garden workshop this afternoon (couple of little jobs on the 3MA)  before being driven back inside by the hideous cold that's enveloping the UK at the moment, so my own activity levels are very low just now in any case.

You Southern Nancy, Warwick !! Cold !, I'll give you cold !! You dont want to be in Fife tomorrow. The max. DAYtime air temp. is to be minus 3 degrees, with freezing mist/fog most of the day as well !! I can already feel my arthritis flaring up !!  :(

                       Yours, seizing up, Wullie.  :D

I wouldn't want to be in Fife ever, Wullie

And by 'garden workshop' I don't mean my workshop in the garden. I mean the garden is my workshop. No indoor workspace at all at the moment :(. I really need to do something about it, cos lying on the cold, wet lawn in the middle of winter to change the mains on the 3MA really isn't my idea of fun...

Fancy a lodger for a bit Jools. Summer in Sydney sounds much more appealing than winter in Blighty. Even if you haven't got any water...

But Warwick, there's some cracking roads up here !! Ideal for a razor sharp, 50 plus hp, lightweight 250 stroker.   :p
I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to a workshop, hence why I'm taking the bike apart at work, in a nice warm hanger !!

              Yours, hurt & upset, Wullie.  :;): :D

Lol. Just couldn't ressist it, Wullie.

Yes, the roads and people are great the further north you go (I'm from Yorkshire of course), but I have abiding memories of childhood holidays in Scotland ruined by the dreaded midges when I was a kid. Are they a problem in Fife? Been promising my wife a trip up the West coast of Scotland for years though, so I obviously have some very happy memories too.

But just now I'd definitely rather be in the Southern Hemisphere most definitely.

The dreaded midges can be a problem here, but usually its too breezy for them, (it always seems to be breezy here), which helps to keep them at bay. But, as a kid, I've had summer hols in the West Highlands, & those buggers, & "cleggs", (horseflies), will eat you alive !! There's some spectacular scenary in the North of Scotland, if you don't mind me saying. You & your Mrs would love it, especially if you get good weather !!

                               Yours, patriotically, Wullie.  :D

Its not all roses down here either Wazza !

Mozzies the size of daddy longlegs sneaking in under the radar for a top up leaving whelts a spotty adolescent would be proud of ! but the worst is when one gets in the bedroom, stealth ain't the word, the only time you hear them is when they pass your ear - sounds just like a fizzie with an allspeed !

The watch out for the redbacks in the garage ! and the mud wasps that lay their eggs in any hole above 1/4" - My LC'shollow axles were full of em !

At least its not sub zero, wet and humid today, sweating like a rapist !

Jools (le whingeing pom ) :D

  Jools,
I had the same problem when I was in the R.A.F stationed in Germany. Jumping around my bedroom like an eejit trying to swat the little buggers in the middle of the night !!
Good to know someone else on here has an aerospace background.   :D
