Screen shot from a gearing calculator spreadsheet showing 3XV stock gearing and rear wheel size, and related speeds in each gear etc.

Obviously this kind of stuff is not 100% accurate (diff tyres have slightly differnt heights due to differnt profiles etc.), but it can give quite a useful idea of the effects of different gearing.

It's just a simple excel spreadsheet and all values can be changed (the spreadsheet doing those tricky calulations for those of us who are hard of maths). The one above shows stock final gearing and 3XV 'R' ratios, but these can obviously be adjusted, allowing you to swap the gearbox ratios for SP ones (check the manual) and final gearing of whatever you are running - or thinking of trying. As can max revs, max power etc., for those who have relevant dyno data to give them peak power and rev figures with greater accuracy. For thiose that don't, note that 3XV tacho's tend to over-read by about 1000rpm at the top end, so if your bike stops dead at 11,500 on the tach, for example that's going to be around 10,500 'real' RPM, so that's what you should put in the relevant column - not the tach figures.

If anyone wants a copy, just mail me and I'll forward it to you.

Be aware though that a stock 3XV just aint gonna pull that 30 tooth rear and give you 150mph at 12000 rpm - unless you find a very big hill :D

Cheers

And here's another with more realistic revs for a stock 3XV - again stock gearing:

.

Looks like the specifically designed it to be about bang on the 180kph restriction mark at more or less max revs in top. Probably why they feel so perky for a restricted bike - and why they will usually pull slightly taller gearing even with a stock 45hp motor.

Cheers

Yes, no problem. Just PM or mail me your email add and I'll flick it over. If it's for the 3MA I think I have one already 'pre-loaded' with the 3MA gearing data, so let me know if it's 3XV or 3MA you want. You can change the data yourself easily enough of course to suit any application really.
