Steve sent me some pics of his finished bike, ready for it's first track outing at the w/end. Thought some of you might like to see them:

The lovely lady is Steve's rather glamourous assistant

I'm loving the lines of the TZ fairing and the banzai paintjob. Very oriental.

Good work Steve. It's a credit to you.

That really looks good, goes well with the leathers..
Is that double bubble screen made for the TZR or TZ fairing?
What sort of bikes will you be up against ?
Geoff.

Thanks for the great comments guys.

Geoof I will actually be a bigger bike out there than the rest.  Here in China the locals are restricted to 150cc bikes on the street so its odd to see anything bigger.

A lot of Yamaha TZM 150's  But there are ways to get bikes in via Hng Kong and there are a few 400 4 strokes and 600 bikes.  An odd 1000 here another but the track is too small for them its a 2 kioometer 14 turn track not much straight away to speak of.

Pretty technical, Designed by an Ausie complete with a hiarpin off camber corner at the end of the short 400 meter straigt away.

Most of th locals are die-hard honda NSR fans anyway.  So this gives me a chance to show them they are all frigin nuts and Yamahas rule the day!

We are all on the track at once and racing the clock only.
Next year I am trying my darned-est to have a proper race series going.

I will hand the bike off to my sponsor as he is nearly half my age, has been racing this track for years and is lightening fast.  One of the fastest in the country..thats a tall statement given the 1.5 billion of them here but he is in the top ten for sure.

At 44 I love riding and racing but maybe I will stick to the old timers class er um I mean vintage.... no thats not right..senior yea thats it "senior class" ha ha

Rode my 3XV and NSR's (MC28 and a an MC18) back to back at the Llandow trackday. I know I'm a bit biased, of course, but for me the 3XV is the better bike on the track.

Or are you talking about the NSR150's, Steve? My wife has one of those and it is pretty nippy for such a little bike. Very cute too:

The bike and the wife in case she's looking :D

Teh honda I saw on teh track was a 250 2 stroke.  about all I can tell you.  They had a number for it but I called it an NSR.  I can find out what it was officially called.

Hi Steve. A liitle inmfo to help you identify the competition

The MC28 has a single sides swinging arm.

The MC21 a double sided 'Gull arm' type

The earlier MC16 and MC18s both have a conventional double sided 'straight' swinging arm.

That's probably the easiest way to tell them apart. Remember, Yamaha honour is at stake :p

OK I asked about the honda 2 strokes they love so much over here (to race.)

It is a PGM-3 or a PGM-4 ever hear of one?  Might be a "jap only" smuggled in to China.

250 2 strokes are as illegal on the street here... But we even get R-1's in

Can never keep a good biker down ya know?

The PGM number referes to the ignition unit, steve. PGM 3 would suggest MC21 like mine below:

PGM4 was used only on the later single-sided swingarm MC28 model I think. The MC bit is the equivalent of our 3XV, 3MA, 2MA model designation. Each of the NSR's also came in R, SE and SP model variants.

Steve, why would 250 two strokes be illegal ??? Because of air pollution, or other reasons ?
I can't keep up with Warwick, that's yet another bike of his that I havn't seen.

I think most of the Asian countries are now new 2 stroke free, Geoff. When I was out in South East Asia in the early 90's, places like Bangkok and Jakarta did have pretty bad pollution problems due to the number of smokey mopeds, tuk-tuks and other little 2 stroke motors revving away all day.

Didn't I tell you about the NSR? One of those impulsive ebay buys, I'm afraid. It's in pretty nice condition, but I'm struggling to get it to carburate really well and it just doesn't float my boat like the Yam's do.  They all (I've ridden a few others now) seem to have have quite a 'clunky' gearbox, and are pretty vibey too as they have no balance shaft. Mine just feels pretty primitive really - and very un-Honda. Not a particularly pleasant ride in my opinion - more like an RGV than a TZR I'd say. The NSR boys think they are the best thing since sliced bread and reckon it's very easy to get 60 horses at the wheel, but mine has all the mods and doesn't feel any quicker than a well set-up 3XV. Maybe it needs some fine-tuning, but I'm not sure it'll ever be the equal of the 3XV's in my eyes. The vibes and the clunky gearbox really spoil it for me. You end up thinking 'do I really need to change gear?' because it's such an unpleasant experience, and the vibes at the top really spoil the enjoyment of the power too. I'll persevere with it for a while, and sort out the few little problems it has and then probably sell it on to someone who hasn't been spoiled by prolonged exposure to the joyous 3XV :D

Cheers

Yes that is correct pollution is a reason and I am not sure other than a 750cc side car which is classified as a 'Car' her that there has been much more than a 150cc on the roads leagally here since Mao took power.

Now LPG gas bikes are a big deal as are electric bikes.

Bigger bikes like teh 250cc are illegal technically unless on a track but for road forget it.  Its a pay off to the MAN to get a proper registration.  could be a months wages for some of these guys.

Ok I get the PGM-3 7 4 thing now.  Thats what theyare known as her not like the MC anything.  They never heard of that or they just simply don't cal lit that.

I'll kick their arses don't worry Yamahas always rule ha ha ha
