Here's a few pictures of Martin77s handi-work with porting tools.
I think he's too modest to do it himself !!  :O
(He gave me permission to post some pics though ?!).

If anyone out there in the U.K. is reluctant to send him their cylinders & heads, ( I was !! ), you have nothing to worry about.
Mine survived the trek from Fife, (east central Scotland), to deepest, darkest Devon & back without being lost by "Parcel Farce" !!  :O ,    & Martins best efforts to ruin them !!. ( only joking Martin.   :;):  I'm impressed, honest.  :D )  He performed his "not quite SP" spec. porting to my cylinders. I think he's raised all the main ports 1.5 mm from stock, squared of the main exhaust ports to also help increase area, opened out the auxilliary exhaust ports & reworked the Power-Valve spools to match. Both cyl.heads were skimmed. (New squish gap should be around 0.85 mm). No doubt he'll confirm or deny the above details at some point.
Time, & a dyno', will tell if I get 50 hp, at around 10,500 actual rpm, at the back wheel with stock R/RS airboxes, 28 mm carbs & exhausts. I'm hoping for around 55 rwhp, @ 11,000 actual rpm, when I get around to buying & fitting a set of Martins hand-crafted exhausts.          He has quite a few satisfied customers, see various past threads in here for proof !!
He charges £100.00 for porting work, plus a tenner to cover return postage.   :D
DO IT, you know you want to !!

I deny everything

I'm glad you're happy Wullie.... I guess the fact that I don't appear in the press or advertise etc, makes people a little wary, but the results should speak for themselves. And it's always nice to prove people's fears wrong.

Anyway..good luck with the rebuild  :)

I've been blessed with a top end tune "and" a set of hand made exhausts from Martin, and my mate who owns his own garage, who helped me put the engine together, doesn't dish out praise willy nilly. He liked em!

Nuff said.

Another positive vote.

In my debut season I was lucky enough to be Martin's 'works/development' rider, using Martin's barrels, head, reed blocks and pipes (and lots of advice and encouragement). Superb performance and reliability meant I had a successful season, able to concentrate on chassis set up and riding.

I've almost finished building a new (Evo!) engine, upon which Martin has tried a few new things. Last seasons engine will be my spare (and a known quantity). Can't wait to get it running and set up, then we'll dyno it.

My only concern now is, with Martin's spreading fame and notoriety, how he'll fit me in...

Heartily recommended :)

That said, every home should have a TDR, I must confess...

There goes the neighbourhood...

I'd like to think that I'll always have a TDR, and eventually a 3MA...

(Especially now they've altered the Bemsee F400 rules to give the 2 strokes more of a fighting chance)

We'll have to meet up at a trackday or something again this summer, Yats'. You could take the marvellous Perverse Thrillinder out and assess it's F400 potential... Mine's a bit rough round the edges, and personally I think a 3XV would be a better base all things being equal, but a serious 3MA built to your exacting standards could be quite a weapon I'd think - even if it's geometry isn't quite as focussed as more modern tackle.

Anyway, It'd be worth racing one just to give the speccie-taters the aural treat that only a reverse at full chat can really deliver. And it is of course entirely in keeping with the 'oddball racer' ethos.

I would require a few laps on the mighty race TDR by way of reciprocation of course... :;):  :D

Warwick, you're on !

What are you doing on Friday, May 8th ? Looks like it could be the TDR trackday at Anglesey (check it out on the TDR forum)

Could even have race TDR #2 ready to be run in around that time as well...

Friday the 8th of May, you say?  Hmmm... think I'm going up to Anglesey to turn the air smokey blue with a load of other stroker loons or summink? :D

It rains 364 days a year on Anglesey though, you know? (snow on the 365th)...

Sounds like a quality plan to me Yats'. I'm in! Been Fancying a run round Anglesey since they re-jigged it.

I reckon such an event could even lure Martin from his lair too... :D

Not sure what's happening to me posts? I keep posting responses to this and then they seem to disappear? Maybe I've finally been excomunicated for the exessive posting of nonsense...

It's over 300 from down here in West Somerset! And a further 70 or so on top of that from Martin's place down Dartmoor way.  Where there's a will, Mr. Honkytonk... ???

Don't want to shame you too much, but I believe even some of the Jersey TDR posse are coming over on the boat too...

You could even use it as a target date for finishing the 3XV :O

It's origins are the PB Mag Forum, but there is an attempt to swamp it with as many 2-Strokes as possible. There is a group of TDR riders going, aiming to make it our '09 get together...

As for LC cylinders Jools, I've not touched any since my old 250LC when I were a mere teenager (although that was quicker than my mate's old bog stock 3XV). Still...I'm sure I can fit my grinder in there if you wanted and we'll see what happens :;):

I think most of the stroker types have gone for the Inters or novices, Andy (me and Martin have both gone Inters).

As Martin mentioned though you might need to book pretty soon to bagsie a place. If the weather plays ball, I reckon it'll be a grand day out. Be great to see you there.  :D

The problem with the track 3XV is the really tall first gear (SP bottom end and taller final gearing too), means that you tend to crest the mountain just as the power is kicking in hard at the top of first. I don't mind a bit of wheelie but it's really quite alarming as it flies up like a startled crow and tries to pivot round the rear axle! Taken in second it's below the power so is too sluggish. Need to run an R gearbox for Cadwell realy 'cos then it'd be nicely in second like the far more predictible 3MA was.

Nice pic, ya tart! :D

It seems this track day at Anglesey is getting a few people motivated to finish old projects, i have to confess to leaving things to the last minute.

If i'm honest, i've done a fair few track days, but i'm a bit nervous about riding a stroker for the first time. I've not even got that much experience on the road.  ???

I have been toying with a F400 race on a two stroke but I thought 3XV, maybe flogging off the 2ma and building something. How much power could you squeeze from a 3XV or would the 3MA be a better prospect. I know the Tz barrels + bits aparently go on but I'm guessing theres way more to it than this?

Its just a nucleus of an idea at the mo, those ramair ZXR's are quick though at 80bhp

What neddies does your 3XV put out Andy?

Be nice to see some more two strokes in the F400 - I know John Sanders isn't really pro two strokes, but the rules have opened up with the weight limit being dropped so nows a good chance. why not take it to Lydden this year either way. I might unleash the "Valve" on them there :D .

it had 63 ponies in it's last year of racing 2006....but there's a few plans ahead, so hopefully have a few more by May.

Lyd is as much about good drive out the corners, as outright power so ya valve shud have a good chance so long as the handings sorted !

63 -65 seems the ball park without changing the ignition to a TZ which is not as simple as it sounds (see my earlier posts on the subject)
But that power is useable and reliable - unlike RGV's  :D

Putting a TZ top end, pipes and carbs & CDI is an easy option but you would need the wiring and regulator as well as some fiddling with the stator wiring if you kept the stock TZR rotor & stator assembly.

I would also use an SP crank for insurance.

Hi fellas,

Part of the reason behind the ZXR success is the gearing in 5th/6th is short enough (1.2:1 and 1.1:1) to let them run bleedin' great rear sprockets, almost motocross size! Obviously this gives them massive acceleration in the lower gears too.

Mind you, 80bhp does indeed help! :)

Cheers...
