Hi people, on closer inspection a have noticed there is a slight score on one of the barrels from the previous owner's heat seize. So im looking to have this repaired and replated. Stan steven's seem's to one one of the cheapest plus he does porting as well.
Just wanted to know if anyone has used him before on here, and most inportantly what their experience was ?
Also open to suggestion's for other replater's and tuner's in the uk prefferably.

Most UK engine builders/tuners use one of two companies:

Poeton

Langcourt

As Yats' notes, they all end up at either poeton Aptec or Langcourt AFAIK. You can send them directly, which I've done in the past with a 3XV cyl (Langcourt), but I can't remember if it worked out any cheaper or quicker. BDK are a few quid cheaper than Stan: BDK Engineering  And you might want to talk to them about their piston kits too? Much cheaper than oem, but no idea what you actually get?

Sure it really needs replating though? I'm always surprised by what you can get away with and still make very good power myself. Depends on the type and location of the damage really though of course.

For porting etc., I can't speak highly enough of Martin77's  work (from this 'ere forum).

Thanks Essarjay, I was going to ask this question at some point myself, for future reference. :D
As for Martin 77s porting skills, I'll find out first hand soon, as he's currently working on my cylinders & heads, (I hope !! ) :;):, as I type this.

Poetons are the only company to offer nikasil as the other company use there own coating, Never used it but must be good as many people us them.

I've used Poeton's for years so would only recommend them, I've built many single four strokes and never had one fail (yet).

But Poetons are only 10 mins away from me so no need to use anyone else but they should all offer a good service and product.

The cylinder is definatly in need of replating, there are long score's right over and past the exhaust port.
Does martin77 do porting for a living are just as favour's for people ?
I thought with someone like stan stevens or mick abbey, they could sort out the replating and port as well.
Might be cheaper than posting all over the place.
Depend's on how much martin77 charge's.

You could try light 'cross hatching' with 280 grade wet n dry with a bit of kerosene or WD40 to get that light honed look. work in two directions at 45 degrees each from the vertical from the cylinder top face. Nothing to lose on a cylinder like that....... :;):

Im not sure that will touch it jools.
When you drag a finger nail across it you can feel it, if you know what i mean. Must be nearly .40mm.
Actually, the more i look at the barrels the worse they seem to be. :(
Better stop looking....
