Went over to Llandow (South Wales) for a track day on Sat. The weather was good and we were on for a good one:

Bike was running really well and out on the track we were having heaps of fun playing with the big boys - here I am trying the outside line around a GSXR600 (I think)

I was a bit concerned about the state of the front BT090 which I had really meant to change before we went, but didn't have the time. By lunchtime it was a slick on the right as Llandow is a predominantly right handed circuit:

However the bike was running and turning very well, and I was enjoying scrapping with a 95 TZ and an Aprilia Tuono in my group particularly, so I just kept an eye on the tyre and kept going out there... And then, in the last session (it's always the last session isn't it) in the fast right in the pic at the top the front let go and we went down - classic low-side. Seemed to slide for ever and the bike kept trying to get friendly with me so I kept having to kick it away as we hurtled off the track and through the trackside debris, before coming to rest in an ignominious heap. The marshals and medics did a great job of coming over to collect us and transport us back to the paddock on the 'trailer of shame'.

Gave the bike a proper look over yesterday and It is a bit of a mess, but it's essentailly all just cosmetic, which isn't too bad considering the pace we were going (If you are still reading Martin, you may want to avert your gaze now). So here it is:

Went down on the right

But of course it couldn't resist a little flip, just to match things up a bit:

And here's the offending front that let go:

I am fine, but the bike will need a bit of TLC to get it back to something pretty. Took all the panels off yesterday though and took it for a little ride and it is running and steering as well as ever, so I guess I got off pretty lightly, really.

Any donations of spare fairing panels would be warmly welcomed though    :;):

Just to add insult to injury my hard drive conked out yesterday so I'm havuing to use a diff PC. So if any of you have mailed me in the last couple of days it'll take me a while to respond as I'll need to go through the BT Online thing ( not had chance yet)

Anyway, thought I would share my day with you all. It was a shame about the off as we were going really well and it was an excellent day out. Just need to find the time and money to fix the old gal up again now...

Cheers

Wb

Hi Warwick.

Oh lordy.

I noticed in picture 3 the fairing looks like it has come adrifft at the bottom!!!!!!!

I think you managed to scrape every panel as well as the tank and exhaust, did you not throw yourself under the bike to protect her?
I am gutted for you, I know I would be devestated if it had been me.
The lowers look repairable, but I think the top fairing has had it.
My panels took a beating not long after I got the bike, but a local guy repaired and painted them to what they are now, as you know they look mint.
Did the front fender survive?

Regards Martin.

So you won't be going back to Llandow in a hurry, Warwick ?

It's turning into a bit of a bogey track for you...

Lol.  I tend to be pretty philosophical about these things, really. I actually think Llandow is a great little circuit and will certainly be back there when the bike's up and running properly again.

Martin. I'd simply taken all the fasteners out of the fairing to take the panels off when it struck me that I should prob get some piccies - all the lugs etc. are OK, so it should just be a rub-down and spray job for the sides I reckon. The upper is well knackered though and the tank will take some work. I 'll prob' rebuild this one as a full-time track bike and tidy up one of the others as the main road-bike.

The pretty front fender did take a little bit of a mauling, but it's not too bad

The right pipe will need a new cone cutting, shaping and welding in, but it was already damaged on that section anyway from before I got the pipes.

It was actually a really good day and the bike was going so, so well. A Little lad next door in the paddock was doing lap times for his dad on a Priller 250 and did mine too. I don't know what a good time is at llandow, but I was lapping about 5 seconds quicker than the lad's dad on his priller RS club racer at a regular 49-50 seconds, so I was pleased that I had got some consistency going at last.

I was also very pleased to come away unscathed cos that second of the rights at the top of the circuit (after the bus stop for those that know Llandow) is pretty quick. The bike will fix up no problem. As will my Ego in time :D I'd much rather the bike was bust than my old bones.

Cheers

I quite agree, it certainly suited the TDR...

In fact, we're trying to organise the first TDR Owners get together there for next summer; could be about 30 TDR's in total, with 20 out on track (the others can go blatting in the Welsh lanes). It'll be a social event too, with a BBQ the night before/after in the campsite next door...

Check out www.TDR250.co.uk

Excellent Idea, Yats! Now that would be a sight to behold.  Put my name down if you don't mind th odd sprtsbike coming along too. You never know, I might even have a TDR by then in any case. I reckon a TDR would be perfect for a lot of the back-lanes commuting I do down here in the west country - a bit more civilised than the pretty visceral CRM in any case.

Cheers

Bad luck Wazza

Glad to hear all your fingers and toes are intact if not unscathed.
Was that my old top half you trashed ?? :p get yourself some race glass, a lot tougher and easier to repair than the Jap bin liners they build them from. :D

I had a fantasic final round at Oran park in the intermittent rain showers - after i bit the bullett and invested in some full on Bridgestone Wets.

Dude they are the dogs danglers and inspired kamikaze type braking manouvers into bends with rivers running across them. Get yourself a spare set of rims and some fitted, best part is they come in 110/17 and 150/17 sizes.

If it wasn't for my slipping clutch I know i would have bagged my first trophy this weekend and i'm kicking myself for not changing it in the week.I ended up 4th in class by 12 points over the 4 races and 4th in Championship 7 points behind 3rd place man Eastoe, who had a dog of a meeting.

This bike was pulling an indicated 13000+ rpm down the straight in the wet. I actually passed a few TZ's with the clutch slipping ! If I can just sort out the midrange fueling problems I'll be a very happy chappy.
Man i love the rain its a great leveller :;):

Just viewed the photo's at home, the IT dept at work stop foto downloads for some reason, in fact they don't like forums at all, most are blocked except this one and the TZ250 one :;):

Talk about ragged edge, mate thats a few beer tokens worth there.

Look at okshon there are a few panels on there at the moment under '3xv SP' search.

Warwick

You'll be more than welcome; you'll either provide the entertainment, or something to chase on the track...

Warwick,

Just got in from a trip so sad to see the TZR in such shape.

If you are going to make it a race only then we need to talk. I got an idea....No not all carbon body work!

So the Carbon Fender is it trashed? or just scuffed up?  I want it back.

I will replace for you no charge so I can do a proper inspection and see what the results was based off your testimony.

I just did that for a fella that wadded up his Yamaha R-6 flippity flip.

It helps me on this end to develope a better product....gets you a good looking fender a gain as well.

Sorry to make you my defacto "CRASH TEST DUMMY"

When your e-mails working drop me a line.  You will like this idea.

YamahaR-6 High speed fliping damaged 100% Carbon Hugger (Purchased the hugger last week)

Ouch!

I'd say 'unlucky' Warwick but it looks like that Bridgestone gave you every bit of grip it had to give!!!

Still, Good Work fella!

The TZR crashes well and I hope the rebuild doesn't throw up any unpleasant surprises!

What tyre sizes were you running?

Stock 110/150 sizes, Grumpy - Bridgestone BT090's. The front should have been changed before I went to the track, but circumstances conspired against me. But, yes, I'd certainly had my money's worth from that front (including 3 or 4 trackdays) and should have heeded the warnings and stayed in the paddock for the last session. Difficult to listen to reason when you are having so much fun tho' - If you've never had yours on the track I'd highly recommend it - just make sure that you have enough tyre left for the whole day :( .

Cheers

Eeyow! That tyre had no more left to give. Pity about the tank.
Time for some cheap fibre panels now!
Racing in OE plastic is like playing rugby in your best suit.
Would you like me to check local fibre panel prices?
I had a perfect panel in your colours which I stripped and fitted the 125 decals..

Warwick,

I just got back from the FRP supplier.  Here is what I picked up for you.

Oh those shinny black things are the ankle protctors you sent to me.. I had them anodized black for you like you said you wanted.

I need to get the brackets for you in about two weeks if thats OK. There is a national holiday here and the country will shut down for a week.

I hope this helps your track only effort.

Oh I will of course include the servo parts you lent me as well as any other goodies I can muster up.

I did not alter this original TZ 1999 body work for the simple reason I have no idea what pipes you have and how they will touch fit etc.. I will leave it up to you to fit it up.

I will send some pictures and detailed install instructions to make this all go smooth and with no frustration.

One last note teh TZ fairing will nto accept a standard TZR bubble.  I can not get them here I just imported two of them from Zero Gravity in the USA.  Not sure wher you can get them over there.

Good luck with the winter rebuild

Steve can you sort out the cost of a couple of those complete fairings for my end of season fettle ?

Until we have a full production class field I might as well look like a TZ if I have to race against them  :p

Warwick,

There are strings attached...ok just kidding.  If you could fit them up and give the post a proper critique.

Also please let me know what needs to be trimmed, form what you see, to make them fit an everyyday bike.

I will then compare that with my fitting up over here.  Between the two we can work out the bugs faster.

Its a tight fit but once on it looks good IMHO.
