can anyone tell me what this engine is?
it has 3xv02 on the back of the cases were the clutch cable bolts on, dry clutch, and has the 3 holes to oil the middle main bearing?
it does have a sp crank in her but has a std 'r' top end,
any ideas?

i was thinking it could be an 'rs' with the std top end, but didnt they have the std 'r' crank?

cheers

Unless you are entirely confident that the motor hasn't been apart since leaving the factory, I'd imagine it's either an RS that has had an SP crank put in it at some point, or it's an SP that has ended up with an R type top end. I'm pretty sure taht all the RS models used an R type crank, but that may not have been teh case. The SPR of course used the SP type crank What are the cylinder and head Id's? The fact that it's a 3 hole crankcase would suggets though that its a later bottom end. Not sure when the went to the 3 hole set-up - or even if they all did, but all of the early (91 and 92) bottom ends I have seen are single hole.

Not sure that helps much though  ???

Cheers

I don't think they did go to three holes - as far as I'm aware this is an aftermarket mod. Its not even shown in the Sugo manuals........
You could be looking at an engine similar to those I assemble.

Modified cases, SP crank ported R top end. You would need to compare the cylinder port timing and widths to a standard set to be sure.

cheers guys for the replies.

the reason for me wanting to know what model the engine,
(bottom end really) is that the gear box is knackered.
depending which side of the shaft is first gear on?
left or right? its either third or fourth gear thats gone in a big way! so really it would help if i knew what gearbox, r/rs or sp
it is so i can get the right gears.

top end is std 00 cylinders and heads, though there looks to be some very light porting work.

its china racers old engine, steve thought that the crank had gone, but thats all ok.

Ere! Steve had offered me first dibs on that motor! I've been waiting for him to send shipping details! Cheeky buggers! :D

Pretty sure I've seen a comparison of the few little crankcase mods over the years, and the later ones had the 3 holes, but I can't find the site now, so I may well have dreamed it :D

The early R and SP parts books show the number of teeth on each cog, daz, so you should be able to work it out from there I'd think? I haven't got an RS parts book to hand to check, and I've always assumed that the RS ran R gear ratio's, but maybe they run the SP ratios too?
Either way if you have a look in a few parts books you should be able to figure out which type of cluster you have and should thus be able to order teh right parts.

Cheers

looks like i will have to get of my backside and get looking in them parts books then

i had hoped that the 3xv02 on the cases would have given it away though ???
i have heard in the past that sp cases had an engine number stamped on the cases, is this true?

that web site you mention warwick is no longer available,
but i have seen it in the past, or do all 3xv owners have that dream :D

cheers guys

None of the 3XV cases have a full engine number on them, Daz. And the 3XV-02 marking isn't much use either, I don't think - I think it just means its a later production batch - possibly with some changes, though the 91 SP bottom end currently in the track bike is an 02 crankcase set IIRC? Not 100% on the -02 identification though. Anyone else got anything more definitive on this?

I was really annoyed that I hadn't done a copy of that site - the one with all the cylinders and all sorts of other useful specifications info. If anyone readiong this has, I'd really appreciate a .mht archive copy.

Cheers

That is a good one, but the one I was meaning ,with all the 3XV and TZ cyl comparisons, port dims, head vols, cases etc was at: http://translate.google.com/transla....&u=http according to my links. The links on the 'Tutchy' site should all work. Sometimes you have to get tio teh page you want and the do the translation bit though for some reason.

Like I said, if anyone saved an archive copy I'd really like a copy of it.

Cheers

Warwick,

Sorry but actually Daz asked for it about 6 months ago and I never could get my shipper to get me a price.  I never heard form him but after I offered it to you he called me on it since I had reposted it and he asked why as he still wanted it.

Sorry for the mess and confusion.

I meant to drop ya a line about it.  Just been busy with my race bike build.

Man I am straight out busy with this thing.

Its a 100% ground up bastard of a build.

Whats Cheeky Bugger mean anyway?

Thats the second time I was called that in a month.  This can't be a good thing ha ha.

No problem Steve. I didn't really need it, I just felt that I'd rather giove it a home than it end up in a scrapyard somewhere in China. I'm glad that Daz has it as he will make good use of it I'm sure.

'Cheeky Bugger' is a difficult one to define really... Think 'rascal' or 'scoundrel' - Bart Simpson perhaps  :D

Good luck with the new racer project.

Cheers

Warwick
