3ma 1 clutch part numbers

3ma 1 clutch part numbers

Hi All, long time since I've posted, actually first post on the new board :D thanks Skip and nice to see everyone is still around!

Its time for a new clutch, looking through my parts book I am a little confused because on pg21 (second page of clutch assembly) there is an additional drawing marked 89-019 that shows a different order of assembly. Can anyone please explain?

I'm going to list the part numbers below and quantity required for both varifacation and future reference for other menbers. The # refer to number assigned in parts book.

#17 p/n 5Y1-16331-01 qty 2 friction disks
#19 p/n 3GM-16321-00 qty 1 friction disk
#8 p/n 4H7-16321-00 qty 4 friction disks
#9 p/n 4H7-16325-00 qty 6 clutch plates
#18 p/n 5Y1-16383-00 qty 1 don't know what this is called, spacer or spring?
#14 p/n 90501-23598 qty 5 clutch springs
#12 p/n 93340-21505 qty 1 bearing
#21 p/n 93310-230T7 qty 1 bearing
#23 p/n 90215-20231 qty 1 lock washer

I think that should be everything, if I've missed anything please let me know. Does anyone know why there are 3 different friction disks?

Thanks in advance,
Nunzio

Hi Nunzio

That additional drawing you see marked 89-019 is the correct order, accept the ring #18 should be one place to the left. The other drawing is just clearly showing the parts, I have no clue what was going through the Japs heads when they did both drawings, cant work that one out :?: If you put the plates in the order they are shown in the other diagram your clutch will be finished in no time.

And the other thing I suggest is to leave the ring #18 out completely, and just put a wider plate in, so order one extra #8 and one less #17.

there are 4 normal plates, 2 plates with a slightly larger inner diameter to fit in certain places and one thicker plate that goes in first against the metal. 7 plates in total.

hope it all makes sense.

Hi Nunzio;

Yip thickest plate first then next thickest and so on. About the ring Luke is refering that you leave out not sure what it does but the rz 500 has one for every pressure plate. They will not design it if it didnt have a function. My guess ie it helps to even out the load to all the clutch plates. Some safety funtion :D

Thank you for your replies guys, I will be ordering the parts this evening along with a few other essentials while I'm at it. I think I will order as I listed and an extra #8 as you suggest Luke, this way I am covered both ways.

Cheers,
Nunzio

Hi Nunzio

When you get the plates do a bit of fiddling yourself and let me know what you think.
