3MA fuel line re-think

3MA fuel line re-think

Postby Ndwedwe » Sun Jun 10, 2012 10:04 am

I am looking at this mess I am in. I spent nearly R1000 on needle and seats as I flooded the hell out of this bike not so long ago. Took a drill on the flywheel to get it going.
I bought new seals for top and bottom taps. The top one never switches off and the bottom let's it all past in the ON position.
I have to drain my tank to change jets and I've had enough.
Is there a really clever way of going from the carb to the tank with a simple tap like on my Honda which switches off with an extension to the side?

I have ones put a small rubber behind the membrane of the vacuum tap.
So it closes totally.
So the off position will be:
-on and reserve

the on position is
-Pri

Works for me.

But be aware you wont have reserve ;)

I just take my fuel line off and shove a 10mm rod in the pipe. works for me and is quite quick and easy. I agree, a huge pain in the arse with non working fuel taps especially with the 3ma's odd design.

a different tap that fits the tank that you can either take to pipes down to carbs or split. should be able to switch it off without removing the tank. my honda is not here or i would photograph it. the tap is similar to the idle adjustment, it is flexi and easy to turn on and off.

Put a quick fuel coupler 8mm on the lines

I read on the French 2stroke forum that YamBits has released a rebuilt tap kit for the RZ500 so maybe identical with the 3MA ?

Mr Ndwedwe;

Surely a man of your stature can afford a new fuel valve from yamahahaha :D I bought one about 6 months back. Regarding the rz 500 they are the same In my view. I havent stripped an rz 500 fuel valve yet (mine is brand new) but externally they look the same. I believe the rubber disc will be the same. What I have also done before was turn the rubber disc on the inside around and refit worked 2/2 times for me.

Hi Guys;

Had a look at yambits they are selling the rubber disc it is 30mm OD and also advertised for the 1kt. So looks like it doesnt fit as they are not advertising for the 3ma.

Sorry :cry:

Hi Guys;

I measured the 3ma rubber disc and it is 30.4mm in diameter. I am going to purchase one from yambits think it will do the trick. Rest of the seals are available from yamaha.
