Zeel Ignition 3ma1

Zeel Ignition 3ma1

Hi Guys;

Well the time has come to fit the zeel I bought from ndwedwe :P . Any thing I should be aware off or take cognicance of before I brake anything? I would like to try it with the vaj on and with the fixed air jet. I just need to get a way of cheking temperatures, any suggestions as my electronic knowledge is limited to wiring a house with 220 volt single phase. Ndwedwe has programmed it with a fixed air jet as per his bikes setup. I still need to get the zeel connected to a PC :twisted: not as simple as I thought it was if I connect it to my company laptop it requires me to insert the cd :?:

maccas, the clever sod he is ;) , did a parallel wiring arrangment, he did not cut off the plugs, he just went back and spliced new joining wires and i guess used plugs. i chopped it all out and soldered it up. this eliminates any doubt in connections but is kind of permanent. do he can unplug the zeel and simply plug in the OEM CDI. clever :D , i am also crap at electronics :lol:
i labeled each wire for you, look on the unit side of the plug, i.e. follow the wires from the PV servor, not after the plug. i suggest using the FAJ until you are ready, tuning the AJ's is a time consuming Bugg@r. set PV on open with cable adjusters, you wont need to program it. i will buy it back from you for the same price if you don't come right.

Paul,

I'm afraid you are giving me too much credit there, i have also soldered mine straight into the loom :D

There was one point where i had it wired in via connector blocks so that i could easily change wires but that was only temporary.

Plugs would be good so that the original cdi can be plugged in. It should be relatively easy to get the plugs for a 3ma loom. Try kojaycat.com for connectors, they have allsorts and are cheap too!

well that's where you get them!!!!!
i have been hunting locally, bought a multi set. plan is to use my last zeel on 2 bikes aprillia RS and track 3MA. if i connect the wires with a bit of logic, i can unplug, program and change over. the track bike wont be used that often so it will live in the RS.

Hi Guys

Well a lot of interest around the zeel ignition looking promising. Will probably be soldering as I am also hunting for plugs but thats for the weekend. One of my sons stripped the home pc for parts :evil: . So unable to get software loaded will fix pc first then connect the zeel. One quesion do you need to have it connected to the bike to do the programming or can I just connect it to the PC. Please bear with me as this will probably turn in to a six month project as I dont have to much time available. Decided to build a workshop for my bikes wife is complaining her car is under the tree and the yammies are in the garage as it should be :D . What is wrong if your wife is with you in the living room :?: Chain is too damn long :D cut out a few links ;) Hope I didnt offend any body :beer:

Hi Ndwedwe;

So my software is picking up the programmer it shows connected but the device shows not connected any suggestions?. Do I need to calibrate the throttle position sensor and power valve before I connect it :?:

sorry boet, i've been away.
you can plug the zeel into your PC with your USB cable, it does not need to have alternate power source, unlike the Ignitech.
with the wiring, the wiring diagram is for the units themselves (PV, TPS, AJ etc.) NOT THE COLOURS OF THE WIRES AFTER THEIR PLUGS!!!! :shock:
yamaha changes colours SO look at the wires coming out the PV, TPS, AJ etc. i found doing continuity tests can lead to errors to. (3XV the 3MA is easy)
you bought a programmer to??

the way i programmed it was for you to use while you awaited your USB
you had FAJ's (so TPS not needed, i switched it off), all you need do is set you PV so when it is open it is flush, or use the holes on side of barrel.

Hi Ndwedwe;

:geek: Got my Geek brain fitted uninstalled every thing reloaded every thing and disappointment :cry: Then decided to use good old logic like the transvaal school department taught us. Only plugged in the usb it worked then plugged in the cdi and walla :D results. I had the whole thing connected and then plugged into the pc thats why it never picked up the cdi. The secret apparently is do it step by step not everything in one go. Have family over for the weekend so I will probably stop now for a barby. Once I have the weekend taken care of will connect and see what she does ;)

Will probably have a zillion questions; what I will do is fit it as is with fixed airjet and do a few runs before I will start bothering you guys. Just one question before I hit the road how do you check your temperatures?

Good stuff. The AJ's will stuff you around. Good call starting without them.

Hi Guys;

Want to connect electrical connectors to the cdi do I follow Boruts directions? I assume the power jet wires can be used on the vaj?

Paul I have seen your suggestions just want to know if anybody has got all the wires on plugs and if it is possible?

Hi Guys;

Got the connectors fitted to the zeel eventually. Put connectors on all the wires just in case I want to use them. ;)

Well now it needs to go onto the bike and see what happens. Decided that the most valuable tool in my garage is the magnifying glass. :lol: Yeah!

Magnifying Glass.jpg

Could not have setup a 3ma carb without it or vaj jet sizes verified without it.

Will copy ndwedwe's setup to the letter except for the pilot jets will stick with the 15 for now, only because I havent got a 20 only 22.5 from the rz 500 carbs :D

Hi Guys;

Connected the zeel ignition over the weekend. Unfortunately it was raining so only went for a short spin. The zeel was programmed by ndwedwe so I will make my setup the same as his for initial tests got my 90 airjets and pilot jets. Must say initial run struggles a bit to hit or accelerate to 12 000 rpm as the 00 cdi delivered. Maybe carb issues as I am still on the smaller mains. Mid range was diffrent as per the 00 cdi. Will know how it goes over the weekend. Also got hold of some average faitings and rolling Chasis of a 3ma3 excluding the engine for R2000. So 3ma3 forks will go onto my track bike to improve handling some what was lookin for 3xv forks but the guy wanted R2000 excluding callipers and discs.

Some questions I need answered if you will be so kind. I know it has been discussed before, :) what is the diffrence between the 00 and o1 cdi :?: Also can you please send me some maps on pv's connected with the zeel as Ndwedwe has disconnected his. Also thinking of installing powewrjets and using pv wires to control those. Coker in SA is selling power jets that might be a good option at high rpm :?:

Hi edd
My PV's are most certainly NOT disconnected. You do need to re-set your PV's so when zeel is open they are. Important!!
I disabled the TPS on your zeel as it is not adjustable and needs to be set with a programmer. Simple.
