1KT clocks/meters on a 2MA

1KT clocks/meters on a 2MA

Postby gammaguy21 » Thu Mar 29, 2012 3:37 pm

Hey guys,
first post on the new forum.

There are some features on the 1kt clocks that I perfer over the 2ma clocks (rpm white face, 80kph warning light, cover for the idiot lights).

Will the 1kt clocks work on the 2ma?

From what I remember from the old forum, there may be a couple of issues :
1) The 1kt speedometer has a speed restrictor - if I swap the 2ma speedometer, will there still be a restictions? From memeory, there is a tab in the 1kt speedometer that gets modified.
2) The electrical connectors are different. The 2ma has a 6 pin block connector and the 1kt has a 4 pin connector. If I have to disregarde the extra wire, will it affect anything? Been a couple of day's since I've looked at it... but it may be an extra G/W wire from the 2ma... possibly "reed switch".

Any help would be appreicated.

Hi i have a 1KT and hate the stupid idlot light...
I've never encountered the speed restrictor, had mine showing 180KPH and engine revs still wanting to rise.I have since fitted a motrax speedo convertor to bike so it reads in mph.....
can't really tell you much about wiring not looked at it in years....

I have a 1KT and cut out the speed restrictor tab out of the speedo clock and the bike went faster by about 8 mph.
I also did this with a mates 1KT as well and he noticed the difference straight away.
We knew these bikes were capable of around 120 mph as we had both owned the 2MA versions about 10 years earlier and had them indicating around 125mph flat out and well tucked in with heads down behind the screen.
Before this mod,you could feel the engine holding back at 180 kmh (112 mph) at around 10,000 revs.

I also fitted a motrax speedo converter and found it to be not too accurate when comparing the speed at 30mph/50mph & 70mph with my mates bike, and reading the digital speedos on some cars(citroen's spring to mind) when riding at the side of them.I was doing about 10 mph faster than what was showing on my speedo at these speeds.NOT very good when passing gatso speed cameras.

You can unplug the connector plug from the back of the clocks assembly that goes into the speedo to the restrictor. This will also stop the speed light coming on.
I did this a lot later on when i replaced the kmh speedo with a mph speedo without affecting the top speed.

Thanks for the input guys.

Mickey, I've got alot of in town roads that are 80kph that I have found myself on the side road with the local law enforcement.
I'm hoping an extra visual will help me curb that issue. Doubtfull... but maybe.

Great tip!

I've got some electrical connetors comming in the mail and will see if I can adapt the clocks. I don't want butcher the original wire harness though. If I need to, I'll see if I can swap the clock wire harness. That looks like it could be a way around.

Stay tunned.

just by unplugging the connector to the speedo console removes the restriction and increases the top speed ?? :o
