Hi everyone, delighted to see a TZR forum running again. I'd only just joined the last one and made a few posts before it's demise. This is my first post here so hello again.

I have a 1989 3MA1 that is awaiting it's turn for recommissioning and in the meantime I'm collecting parts for it's eventual rebuild. One of the things I insist on with all my bikes is good quality suspension and I'd like to fit a set of more adjustable RWU forks than the non-adjustable forks the bike currently has. I don't want USD forks as I prefer the styling of the RWU legs as for some reason the red/white 3MA1 styling reminds me of the OWO1 superbikes.

I'm certain I read in the old TZR forum that some models of FZR400RR SP forks bolt straight on but I don't know which model. I'm assuming those of the same vintage would be a safe bet and thus thinking of the 1990 FZR400 3TJ model.

Anyone out there with knowledge that the 3TJ forsk would fit and be the correct length etc.?

I'd also like to track down a 3MA SP rear shock, but assuming these will be hard to come by and popular for anyone wanting to upgrade their base 3MA.

I'm working on swapping the TZR250 2MA with FZR400RR (not SP but externally the same) but I need to modify triple clamps.
I could to some measurements... some already done see my signature for URL.

Thanks for the response Olivier, much appreciated. Do you know what model FZR forks you are using? The 3TJ model forks I wish to use are from 1990 model. They are the same diameter but appear to have a different way of mounting the mudguard. Calipers appear to be the same and I'm hoping axles etc will be too.

My main concern is the length of the fork, I don't want the FZR fork to be too short.

What model FZR is used for your V4 hybrid?

I have a fzr400rr (4XD or 3TJ) and 3ma's, i could do some measurements if you want.

But the 3TJ fork is not adjustable, with a trick you can make it spring load adjustable but that is it.
Don't know if a fzr400rr SP frond fork is easy to get that one is fully adjustable (hard to get where i live)

On the old forum there was a guy who build a r6 rwu frond fork (or complete frond end) in his 3ma without that much afford.
From memory, that for is fully adjustable and will hold the bike classic looks

Also the rear shock of a r6 fits the 3ma, and that one is also fully adjustable

What model FZR is used for your V4 hybrid?

I've got tow sets of FZR400RR 4DX or 3TJ forks.
My V4 hybrid is a complete FZR400RR rolling chassis.
I planning to put the other FZR400 fork on my 2MA with a TZR125 4FL front wheel (3" wide same as the 3XV maybe the 3MA).

I've happened to stumble across a set of 3TJ SP forks hence my interest and I'm Postive there was a post on the old TZR forum saying a few models of FZR forks were direct bolt on with no mods but of course I can't recall which model...

I hadn't thought about the RWU R6 forks but from memory they don't run speedo cables so not sure how that would work with STD clocks which I'd want to keep.

Not sure it's worth the risk in casethe fitting is more trouble than it's worth, already I'll need to source a new guard and I'm not sure about wheel spacers / axles etc.

Does your FZR run the same calipers as your 3MA?

Yes FZR400 3TJ calipers are 84mm bolt pattern (not the usual 100mm like R1-R6 blue spot calipers).

No problems...

FZR400 front rotors are 298mm OD and 3MA maybe 282mm OD like the TZR125 4FL.
FZR400 rotors are identical to 600 faser from FZS 2001 so many Yamahas share these brakes.

I've fitted standard FZR400/600 forks to a 3MA5 frame as it was all i could find locally, an it rides an feels ok. I just had to get the head stem precision ground 10mm further down it's length (to allow the taper bearing to seat in the headstock) by my local toolmakers(machine shop).
I've since found a wreckers locally that has 3 sets of RWU 3MA forks, but there a bit pricey and tatty. I'll continue looking on Yahoo auctions for a set of 3MA5 USD forks then it's completey original.
