105 Mod 3MA

105 Mod 3MA

Postby Ndwedwe » Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:41 am

Hi lads
I have got a lot of PM's about this mod, even from the old forum days.
I hereby post pics of how i cut the pieces and used angle grinder grooves to line the pipes back up (i numbered the pieces left and right as the welder was.... oh well not everyone in the world would understand so i'll leave it out, this is Africa), also the tail pipe which i simply lengthened by replacing the whole crappy std thing with an outside tube and inside straight through, it is all connected to the end piece and rivoted for easy repacking without removal from bike. hope this settles things when searches are made. i did it nearly 2 years ago and cant remember too much else. Good luck and YES, i would do it again, it transforms the bike and to tell the truth, the bike is as good as a set of brand new Jackals pipes, if not better as the latter knock 500RPM off your bike (i am yet to solve this one)

Hi Ndwedwe;

Just got mine back on Thursday to go with the zeel on the track bike :D I see the guy that did mine also made use of the same method. Sommer had them cleaned out while they were open. I had a spare exhaust so I cut the silencer off and used that to insert on the other silencers.

Hi Edd,

What did you do with the silencer? Did you hold it stock or did you do the same as Ndwedwe?

Think fore a track bike Ndwedwe mod is better (or just weld on a flange so you can use a universal end can)
The original silencer (witch use metal flaps to get the noice down) is not ideal in my opinion.

Hi Louis;

I did the same as Ndwedwe and I tell you what first time in my life I saw a 3ma1 hit 12500 rpm without any effort. Once out of the rich spot 8000 rpm plus the mod makes a big diffrence. Best R600 bugs I ever invested. Measured by my seatometer :D . I dont know about the silebncer maybe their is something there but it will be small gain.

I know this thread is about the 105 Mod but let's talk about this pipes shortening and rev increase. I put it down to back pressure which keeps the fuel in the chamber? Allowing it to rev longer? Not lean out? Also this benefits piston crown temps?
I would like to hear more from our resident experts here before I cut 25mm out of my Jakkals pipes which barely make 11000. But do the rest better than the 105 pipes.

Its all about the length that is for sure ;)

Sometimes kit pipes are supplied with different flanges (long ones and short ones)
Perhaps you have long ones fitted?
With the short flanges the pipe almost hit the mounting plate of the flange
With the long ones it is about 10/15mm away from the mounting plate of the flange.

@Edd,

Good to here the 105 mod has given you a rocked.
Could be interested to see how a 3ma3 pipe will react on the 105 mod as it has a different shape.

Now you say it. They seemed long. I'll measure see how much I can chop off at the flange.

Hi Guys;

Yip that will be interesting. You will end up with a diffrent first section diameter 3ma1 about 64mm and 3ma3 about 60mm.
