The mismatch is planned, deliberate and calculated. Grind it and loose some HP.
they are 3xv-oo cyls(3xv4)..i raised d top n hit d water jaket..got it alu welded up,so saved d cyls.....i just thought them jap b'stards have it worked out so u cant mess wit the shape of the ports
oh ye, n there std pipes
sorry...cyls are 3xv10, so are theese sp cyls???
heads are 3xv01, y-1 bottom cyl and y-2 top cyl.. both are o ring heads, are these standard for my model(3xv4) ???
3XV10 are early SP cyls. That's why they don't match up with the exhausts. They use a thin adapter flange piece between the cyl and the pipe flange itself to take the D shape cyl exit to a round shape where it meets the pipe. Sounds like you are missing the adapters?
If you post up some pics of the flange end of the pipe I can tell you if you have R or SP model pipes. Both types are rubbish really, but the SP pipes will at least work a bit better with the SP cyls once you've sourced some flange adapters... Probably easier to track down some race pipes with flanges compatible to the SP cyls instead?
cheers warwick, i thought i had cracked the restriction problem once i took d pipes off...oh well u learn sumtin new every day lol
dan [gecko] had some ally ones i think they were about 80 quid if i remember correctly !
here are the ex flange pics

Looks like you've got a bit of a mongrel like many of us have (myself included). SP cyclinders and heads on a wet clutch R motor. Forks and swingarm appear to be standard R, as are mine... ???
Sorry Teezer, it's a side view of the first 6 inches or so of the pipe header I'd need a pic of to Id which model pipes they are. Should have been clearer...

Not an ideal pic, but it looks like an SP pipe to me. To verify check for a '3XV2' stamp on the belly section. Not all pipes seem to have these stamps though for some reason?
For the oe SP pipes to fit and work properly, you would reallty need to track down some of the flange pieces I mentioned.
Some of the Japanese aftermarket pipes for the SP do away with the oe adapter flange and replace it with their own adapter flange. Others though need the adapter to be kept though, so it would be useful to find some, unless you can find some of the SP race pipes that come with their own adapters - Off the top of my head, that would be the Sugo and SP Tadao pipes. Doubtless others too. Don't expect these to be ten-a-penny though...
cheers warwick, your info is great, i can probably get the adopters from my main yamaha importers as i know the part number and i know the parts department manager really well, he recons about 100-120 euros for both......thanks again as this should make a bit of a difference
The flange pieces are NLA from yamaha sadly! I got mine from yahoo japan in the end through Dan at Gecko motorcycles.
However you are in luck! There are two on ebay germany that I spotted the other day:

I doubt you will find any new anywhere else.
Yahoo japan is your other option I'm guessing.
Dan
Those have been on the Deutsche-bay for months and months now. Make him an offer for the pair, maybe?
And will someone buy that bloody new oe SP shock that's been on there forever too for Gawds sake... ;)
