My speedo was working prior to dismantling the front forks etc.
Now, I can disconnect the cable from the wheel end and twirl the inner cable and the speedo works. I can also disconnect the cable from the speedo end and turn the wheel and the cable turns.
But when both ends are connected up and I spin the wheel the speedo won't budge.
Any advice appreciated. :)
The only thing I can think of is that something is preventing one of the nuts (probably the one at the top end) from being screwed on far enough. This could leave the square end of the cable disengaged at the top end. Perhaps you are inadvertently pushing the cable a little further up when testing it by hand.
Other than that, are you sure you are spinning the front wheel fast enough to obtain an indication on the speedo? It is fairly easy to move the speedo needle when spinning the inner cable by hand, but the ratio of the speedo drive gearbox means that the wheel has to be moving quite fast to get the same result when everything is assembled.
Let us know how you get on.
Regards,
James
Thanks James. The ends are definitely screwed in enough. I have ordered a new cable, but wonder if you have hit the nail on the head with the front wheel not spinning fast enough.
Will let you know how I get on :)
