Title: 18yr old Project
Post by: Airhead on May 24, 2020, 11:19:20 AM
Hi All,

I've not been active on a TZR forum for about 18 years as I stopped riding mine but stored the bike and all the parts in the hope that I would have the time and space to restore it at some point.

Like a lot of people I've had some time lately but no space so my project is still faltering.

Here's a picture that should be a warning to anyone who doesn't take care of their TZR. I'm going to add a few other pics too of the huge number of parts I've been storing for the last 18 years!

There's so much stuff from having had 3 2MA's.

I had to let the second frame and sadly the bottom half of the second engine go a few years ago.

This tank has had a hard life.

I like the 7up panels :)

What's the plans for this one?

Will try to get it running this week. Last time it ran was a few years ago and it took a few hours messing with petrol, battery etc.

Some of the 7up panels must have been homemade, the extra ally hump on the back of the frame supports the seat part. 7up panels were perfect for the chip shop run :)

I'm probably going to have to let it go because I've no garage to work in or store it in and even if I get it running I'm living in London and will be in the extended Ultra Low Emission Zone. The alternative is keeping it until it's 40 years old and then ULEZ doesn't apply.

This week I'll try to list all the parts and get an idea of what needs doing. Brakes are seized of course but the engine is turning over just fine and I have most of the main spares. Probably need a few things like carb inlet rubbers.

Every single panel would need considerable amount work for it to look mint but they are all pretty serviceable, a couple of broken lugs on the side panels which is pretty common.

When I started looking at the parts they just kept coming.

Managed to get it running in a makeshift fashion today. Also found an article that suggests a TZR250 could get a ULEZ free pass.
