Hi
In case anyone else had been thinking about doing it, I took a chance on a pair of Chinese manufactured fork stanchions. Less than £100 delivered. Arrived in a week!
They look okay. Dimensions are accurate, almost the same in the the details - chamfer at the top is less pronounced. Chrome seems okay. However, they each weigh 100grams less than OEM - 1395g v 1496g. I expected closer. I appreciate weight is not a measure of the quality of the steel but there it is.
Anyway, I just built them up with some spare fork parts, having taken many attempts to find fork lowers that weren't butchered. Went the budget route again with Yambits bushes and seals. Also bought some Chinese fork caps for under £25 and they look quite smart - certainly compared to the usual chewed up used OEM ones. As a note, the copper washer for the bottom bolt that Yambits supply as a separate part is not as broad as OEM. I used them anyway. Hopefully, they will seal okay.
Yet to fit the forks. May not happen until later in the Summer. But I'll update on how they perform when I do.
P.S. I did remember to fit the springs!
They look good .
I used Chinese stanctions on my track bike that i built in in 2016 .
No issues with them whatsoever.
have some on my 87, been on almost 2 years, been great.
Thank you both for the replies. Good to have some reassurance regarding their performance. If only they made matching fork lowers too!
