Hi all
I am doing some research on the zeel ignition unit. I have read some TZR models can gain significant power with them. I have a TDR250 with 1kt engine, can I expect a power gain as well when installing a zeeltronic? If yes, what is to be expected?
Thanks
I have an ignitech programmable ignition / powervalve unit as it was what 2T engineering (who rebuild / tune dozens of TZR's each year) recomended.
Power gains are likely relatively moderate, optimised igntion timing will give a little bit of power, I cannot see this would ever be significant?
Hard to be sure on mine as I fitted MJ77 road pipes at the same time, peak power was almost unchanged after ignition and powervalve optimization on a dyno, but really decent gains from 6k-8k and it held on to power for another 500 ish RPM compared to stock pipes, on the road I could feel the power coming in a few hudred RPM earlier and building more quickly allowing me to shift @300-499 rpm earlier without dropping out of the power and being able to hold 6th gear at lower speeds than before, but nothing earth shattering.
Martin states on his website that the road pipes will beneft from earlier PV opening and I expect that is where some of this low down improvement came from, along with the less restrictive pipes - whcih weight well under half that of the originals.
Due to a rather shit rebuild by a previous owner it is all in bits and about to have a ground up rebuild and mild road tune / blueprint (basically fix all the fuckups of the previous build) so will be interesting to see what it looks like after that.
Martin runs a TDR with his road pipes himself and says they really work well on the TDR, I went for them on the TZR as I don't want to rev higher and get silly power as its just a bit of smokey 2T fun to take me back to the good old days of ragging around on LC's with mates, and would highly recomend the pipes if you want a bit more power, or call Andy at 2T Engineering if you want a full race motor in the thing....
...Personally I'd go with the pipes before doing anything else.
I have visited both Martin and Andy. Each are a pleasure to deal with and have a vast knowledge of 2 strokes.
Did you manage a back to back comparison on the dyno -Ignitech vs Zeeltronic? Would be interested to know how that went 🤔

If that is a question for me I have not tried a zeeltronic, I would imagine they would give identical results as they do exactly the same thing AFAIK - just allow a custom map for ignition & powervalve timing?
I have before and after curves for the pipes and ignitech, and will interested in how much it changes after a decent rebuild.
