I ran 95 unleaded after checking the squish and left it at that. I am still running the old plugs, jets settings etc that the bike came with so obviously someone knew what they were doing in Japan. Each carb is slightly different internally from memory the tubes were different. Having ridden the two bikes back to back there is a big gap between both bikes right now. The TZ is fast when it gets wound up but that big dip is the problem and you lose a bit of exit speed where the SPR is just great and therefore faster. I have to fit the other top end and new pistons and then see how we go.

Looks like the 7K is indeed good for unleaded then. Good stuff.

Indeed. A sorted 3XV is a very effective bit of kit  for a 20 year old road bike isn't it? 8).  Great to see it's going so well for you :).
Still Smoking...

A surprise package for sure  8)

Went to the dyno today and this is the printout. I'm pretty happy  ;D

Pat,

good to see you sticking it to those Pesky 600's at Wakefield Park yesterday. The bike sounded and was going very well. We left about 2.30 as the old fella was getting a bit tired. The last race we saw was the TZ race. The red diesel up front was going well but expired (as they do - too many moving parts ) just before the line and Harley managed to nick the win, Glenn Hindle on the RS finished next and then Steve Kairl on my old TZ.
I could see how fast that TZ is it pulled away/caught up from all the other bikes on the straights. I could tell Steve where he is losing out but that won't help me when I get out there  ;D

Looking at your graph that little dip seems to be where the power jets shut off so I reckon its just a wee tweak down on the main and up on the powerjet.

Cheers Jools,
The SPR was humming yesterday again but up against 600s and 1000s its always going to be a hard ask, pissed a few off though around the outside. I messed up a premix in the morning and had slightly too much oil but it went well after it burned off. I have struggled a bit on both bikes with the start but have now settled on as soon as the lights go out letting the clutch out at 12,000 and that seems to work.
In the GP race I qaulifed too far down the grid as its been about 7 years since I was last at this track and then I broke my femur in two places and spent a week laying in a hospital bed so I was a bit reserved in the morning. I was getting the usual bad starts but agian if I launch at 12,000 its not too bad but if the revs drop below 9,000 its into the dead zone and it bogs. This is exactly what happened in the last race, I got the jump on the other TZ ahead of me on the grid as he got a bad start and got my nose in front but it bogged and he was gone and then I had to content with the tractors that had come past. I modified my riding style to drop an extra gear everywhere to keep the revs up so the bike never got below 10,000 and all was well. I had both bike within .1 of a second of each other with the TZ just in front at the end of the day.
Thanks for the speedo also.

The post man finally delivered my spare SPR motor yesterday from Japan. Looks good and should just need a freshen up with new seals and a few bearings and a set of TZ pistons. This motor will be on stand by when the other one lets go. It took me a while to find an SPR top end and they are not exactly cheap so when the whole complete motor popped up I grabbed it. It cost the same as two barrels almost.

Well I suppose it had to happen really, I didn't have to get the spanners out for any repairs at all during the season on either bike but that changed yesterday. I crossed the line in the first race when the SPR dropped a cylinder, the top one. I coasted back to the pits and pulled the plug out and there was water all over it, the O ring had let go. Luckily I had some new spares as the fact that the TZ and the SPR share the same O rings makes it a bit cheaper. I did a hasty repair having to stop mid way to race the TZ refitted the same plug and raced for the rest of the day without incident. Having said that first gear has had it and most times it wont engage so looks like I need to rebuild that also, Yahoo here I come  8)

Here's a video from Sunday in the second race on the SPR. You can hear the numerous missed gears going into first  >:(.

Crank

Nice ride! How many laps was that?

Sounds awesome Pat! Looks to pull really strong and blast through the revs quickly too.

Have you tried lowering the needle a touch to stop it four stroking on part throttle? Just an observation!

I haven't touched this bike to fine tune anything since it came from Japan, it still has the same plugs fitted  :-[

I pulled the top head off today and checked it was flat and it was, I also checked a new head for reference and it was the same. I checked them in the lathe with the dial guage. The o ring failed this time because it broke. I have bought 3XV o rings this time to see if there is any difference in the life span over the TZ items
I might get both heads machined just to make sure anyway.

might have been "old stock" Pat.

Might be but the package was fresh looking. Anyway she is back together now and getting prepped for the 9th of November.
