Nice!  O0 whats the price? Not that i want a 3rd,! I see the vin also falls within the 500 range, surely they only made 500 of these?
Since ive had mine ive seen prob only 4/5 others come up for sale.

This is the RS version they made 7900 of this version. The RSP was limited to 500.  Its up for auction and a typical price for one that is grade 3 (which is what this one was rated at) is about 500,000 yen. Plus fees etc.
Current bikes..
Yamaha R1 2000
Yamaha 3MA3
Honda NS250R
Honda NSR250RK MC18
Aprilia RS250 full carbon projects X2 Sucker for a project.
Suzuki RG250 Mk1
Ayrton Xtrema Pro 155

In resources it shows the range between 097101 and 105000, so 7899, but does that mean every number within that range was used?Or was it a "range"that the actual number of models made fell within?  ive checked the vins on a few 3XVA ive seen, all fall within 500, and they all start 097, i.e 097 212, 097 165, my 2 both start 097 and the last 3 digits fall within 500, the one ybk shows is the same, the last one fastline sold was the same.
Its weird though because the 92 RS 3XV8 ( 1000 made ) you see them all the time, 3XVA and 3XVB you rarely see, SPR , there seems to be loads of, and weirdly the chart just shows a starting from, not and ending point for the SPR.

ybk

Yeah, I'm thinking the numbers are probably a range for Yamaha to use and not necessarily amount of units made. All evidence so far point to only 500 RS's made..

I thin the SPR has an an 'artificial' extra value due to being the last off the production line. I'm pretty sure they made in excess of 1000 making any other SP a lot more desirable in theory..

bulldogboy

Yeah seems feasible, although the SPR had changes like the guilotine Pv s, as last in the line of production, there must of been alot of 3XV parts to use up at the factory, maybe thats why they extended the last run of the 3XV to 1000? If there was one model desireable above others would it be the 3XVB S.P? i wouldnt say no to one 8)

I agree. It may be that frame numbers are reserved in anticipation of production numbers which are not often achieved. The YSP Marlboro 2AW has a number range of 030101 to 031801, making a total of 1,700 possible units...which could be plausible. The YSP Tamura 2AW has a number range of 053101 to 066000 (or 056101 to 066000, depending on which official Yamaha figures you believe!), suggesting something between 9,900 and 12,900 units. However, the Tamura version appears to be much rarer than the Marlboro version.
The number range for the 3MA1 is 000101 to 046000 - could Yamaha really have made anything close to 45,900 units in less than one year??? I suspect that production was much closer to 10,000 units, but I lack any sound knowledge of the model to offer an 'informed' view.
The SDR200 has a range of 000101 to 025000 (24,900 possible units) but I've never seen or heard of a frame number greater than 008XXX, which suggests that fewer than 9,000 examples were made. I saw it written in a Japanese magazine (I think in a report on the 25th anniversary gathering of SDR200 owners at the Yamaha factory) that production did not exceed 9,000 units.
One may wonder whether short-run 'specials' (SP-models etc.) are more likely to get closer to filling their frame number ranges than standard versions ?:-| .

James

It must be a piss take, very odd.
