Rear Brake caliper options

Hey Guys, so i had the bike running perfect, new plastics (chinese ones but look great)and all.

I decided i wanted to paint the rear brake caliper which was the original silver one.  I took it apart and when i went to get the bleed nipples off, they snapped. I tried to drill them out but it didn't go so well.

Are there any options to replace the calipers. I see the ones for the 1kt, MA, FZR 400 but when i x-refference the part number, they don't match the ones for the 3xv.

Any ideas or better options?

Thought this was a common rear caliper Yamaha was using. The ones on my 3xv's look exactly like the one in my tzm 150 and the 2ma.

What's the difference in the part number?
Just the first 3 letters?

Thanks for reply.

Yeah, the 3xv show the 2tv and others show like bj, or 4AP.   I measured the pad pins and the spacing is 34 mm And i saw some others to be different. The mounting holes on the 3xv is 86mm from my measurements, not sure what the TZM or 2ma.

would you mind measuring the mounting holes?

The part number sequencing can be a puzzler Rick. If I word search the English 3XV parts manual there are loads of 3MA, 3TJ, 1KT, 4FL etc parts listed. In this case, the rear calliper part number is 2TV-2580W-00-00 and Google tells me it's common to the TZR 3XV's and R1-Z's. I can't see it listed for anything else.
According to what I read on Google, the first three characters (letters) are the model code from the first type of bike they were ever used on; the next 5 numerals provide the basic parts type (in this case a brake calliper) and then you get into the digits for colour, materials and the adding of letters. It's pretty complicated so for the detail I'll paste a link below.

Back to the rear brake calliper, I'm also struggling mine which has a seized piston and pad pin. If I can't shift them this weekend I'll buy another off Yahoo Japan. Second hand 3XV parts are extremely rare here in NZ but, depending on where you live Simba, you might have more luck locally.

4AP is the tzm code I can measure the rears. My tzm uses the same carrier and axle as the 2ma. I looked into doing a possible 2xt upgrade in suspension and wheels on it. Much closer than I thought it would be.

Cool thanks.

I measured the 3xv R spr n tzm all 83mm

They sure do look the same.

Awesome. Then they all should work.

Thanks for doing that. I appreciate it.

Just checked my pad pin centres - 30mm.

Cool. Thank you. I'm in the states so it's much more difficult to get parts than where you are.

I'm not sure this will add much value to the discussion at this late stage, but I think the rear brake caliper was/is common to many Yamahas from the later 1980s to early-mid 1990s and future models developed from them (especially 'sport' models).

The 2TV model code is for SDR(200), whose rear caliper is painted silver. Others painted gold (e.g. 1KT) will have a different part number and there are other features which will cause a different part number to be assigned (e.g. brake pads). However, the calipers are physically the same and are interchangeable.

I think there is a reasonable chance that if the mounting hole pitch of a potential replacement caliper is the same as yours and it looks the same, it will interchange.

James
