3XV octane requirements

What octane gas does the 3XV (1991 R) require?  I have non-ethanol 87, 89, and 91 locally available.

It appears these engines are not very high compression from the compression psi specs.

Many engines will just run better on lower octane gas if it's not required to prevent detonation.

Just wondering if that is the case with the 3XV.

Thanks.

The stock 3XV was 93-95 ron which equates to 87 and 89 Octane.

Personally I would use at least 95 Ron however if your motor has been tuned/set up then keep to the fuel used to set it.

An explanation or octane Vs ron numbers is here.

As someone from the states do not put anything less than pump 91/92 in it. Better yet if you can find a farm co op nearby that possibly sells 92 ethanol free. Like a cenex.

My local Cenex sell 87, 89, and 91 ethanol-free.

You feel there is potential for detonation with anything less than Premium high octane?

Thanks.

Yes i do and with how rare and expensive these bikes are. Why risk fucking it up just to save a few dollars.

Definitely go with the 91 e free

OK - will do.

It's not the cost that would make me run a lower octane, it's the fact that some engines just run better on lower octane gas.

EDIT: Compression ratio is only 7.5:1

I don't skimp on quality gas, oil, or tires.

Thanks.

In Australia we have 91, 95, or 98 RON which are all ethanol free.

We also have E10 which is 94 RON but with up to 10% ethanol.

The best I could determine our 91/92 pump gas state side is equal to 95 Ron.

Our octane numbers comes from adding the ron and mon rating numbers together. Then divide it by 2.

They claim by doing this it gives a more accurate octane level rating.
