Let me tell you about my TZR.

I guess it was early 2013 when I first time heard about TZR250 bikes. TZR125 bikes are still quite popular bikes here in Finland, but 250's are quite rare, it was expensive bike back in the day. After one evening internet searching I decided to buy one. Major problem was, where to get one. I kept our trade site called Nettimoto on eye and saw two of 250's for sale in short time, but both of bikes were in quite bad condition. I was going to give up, until...

It was one Friday in early August 2013, when I opened Nettimoto after long time and WHOA! There it was! A low mileaged '90 2MA. There was only one bad pic and I didn't believe that mileage was correct. Bike was also bit more expensive than those 2 earlier bikes.
Well, I decided to check it again on Saturday. Seller had taken new good pics and I got really interested. So I decided to call him. Seller told, that TZR was old driving school bike and mileage was correct, approx 25000km's. Bike was in Helsinki, 300km's away from Kurikka where I live, but seller told me, that If I'll buy bike, he can come half the distance with bike. I told him that I have to think about it. Next night I slep really badly, 'cause I was thinking what I should do.
Next morning I called for the seller again and said that I'll buy it. We agreed that we meet in Tampere next week.
So we met there and I tested the bike. I was sold. Bike felt fantastic. It was also in quite good condition, some scraches here and there, but it ran nicely. So I bought it. Here is some pics after I arrived back home:

In the background there is my '86 RD125 YPVS "Micron Spec"

So then I was proud 250 owner. I rode with it approx 1000km's before winter and I really enjoyed every of them.

'Cause bike was still quite much ridden, I decided to do top end rebuild. So I took cylinders off:

Left one was in STD. size and piston was also original. But that right one was in +0.75 oversize. Seller told, that waterpump had broken and that cylinder was seized. I decided to order +1.00 Wössner pistons and rebore cylinders:

I also ordered new inlet rubbers, cleaned carbs, changed brake fluids etc. Then she was ready to go again:

Ordered that solo seat cowl from classicracereplicas.com.

2 weeks ago, I hitted road again. Bike worked quite nicely, but right cylinder started to smoke very badly and the exhaust fumes smelled transmission oil. So I guess crankshaft oilseal is broken. I have ordered new seals, next thing is take motor off the frame and put it in the pieces. I gonna do that next Saturday. I write then something about that mission. :)

Long post, lots of pics and struggling english. ;D Hopefully you understand.

Thanks,
Antti

unofficial lap record holder --- to be corrected one day !

jools

Plus ce la change, plus ce la memchose

ybk

Looks nice and original 8) You should get some nice pipes as a reward when finishing the crank seals! :D

McPaavola

Thanks about your nice words. :)

I've been thinking about pipes, Jim Lomas or Nikkon. JL's are so d_mn expensive and Nikkon is re-developing their product range and they didn't knew, are they gonna make them anymore when I asked some time ago. We have made several 2-stroke pipes with my friend, so one choice is that we make our own pipes. When, I don't know, maybe next winter. But we'll see. ;)

Today I changed those crankshaft oilseals. Here we started in the morning:

About 1,5 hours later:

The seal:

BINGO!:

So it was totally kaput. New seals in and parts back. Unluckily I forgot new gasket set in the home garage and i was in the workshop 30km's away from home, so I didn't get it complete. But I believe, that I get it running next Saturday. :)

TZR's been running since Saturday, I have ridden it about 300km's. It works now better than ever during my ownership.  :)

This advert was main reason why I registered to this forum:

I contacted Manuel almost immediatelly after that and today I picked these parts on the post:

And after some hours of working and wondering it looked like this:

It went almost staraight to my bike. Some things what I had to do:
- Changed rearlight bulb sockets from original light, because connector was different.
- Modified indicator connectors to fit original wiring harnes and connectors. I cutted wires and solded bits of wire with connectors what I took from damaged RD indicators.
- Removed carefully that reflector, 'cause our register plate won't fit if you leave it there.

It sits nicely and works great. I think bike looks now very cool. 8) Now I just have to paint my chinese 1KT replica front indicators.

Many thanks for Manuel a.k.a tzr250_pt!!! :)

Looking very nice! Satisfying to put the finishing touches on it! Number plates outside of Japan almost never fit the rear mudguards, I almost trimmed mine but thought otherwise (hard to find an untrimmed mudguard). Decided to trim the number plate rather >:

Now you need a 3XV  ;D

McPaavola

Thank's ybk!

3XV would be nice but sadly we don't have them here in Finland. :( Same thing with 3MA's.

Now with replica front indicators:

Next 1KT replica mirrors. 8)
