Incorrect oil pump setting cause running problems?

Hi been having problems with poor running/bogging down.  Thought it may have been the stator.  I had a bit of free time the other day and decided to go through the workshop manual to check the settings on my bike.  The oil pump adjustment was out so I put it to the correct settings and took my bike for its MOT.

The bike ran so much better, no stuttering or bogging down. Felt like a different bike.  Even passed its MOT.

Hopefully it wasnt a one off.

Question is would a wrongly set oil pump cause it to run so badly?  Or could it be a combination of little things?

its going to go on the dyno in the next few weeks just to see whats happening with the power levels.

Thanks John

Hi - Glad to hear you've improved the running of your TZR and hopefully it continues that way!

Out of interest - what exactly was incorrectly adjusted?  Was it the cable or pump stroke or something else?

Hi, took oil pump cover off and in just didnt line up.  I adjusted the cable as per the workshop manual and it made a big difference.  Hopefully give it a good run over the next few days and see how I get on.  John

Right - I think the pulley can end up in a different position depending on whether the engine has just been turned off or if the ignition has then been switched on again and the PV motor has gone through its cycle.

I'm not sure the manual makes it clear which one to use but from memory, one will mean you nearly use up all the cable adjustment to bring the pulley into line (which can't be right) and the other leaves the cable adjustment somewhere close to the middle (which is probably the correct one that you have now achieved).

My engine is in pieces at the moment so I can't double check - but someone will know for certain.

I have just adjusted mine. From what I read on here and YPMRC forum, you turn the ignition on to let the PV go through there cycle and then adjust the pump with the throttle fully open.

Thanks for all the reply's.  Im going to have to double check now as I cant remember if I did it with the ignition on. ::)

Clearly changing the oil amount ( whether by mix or oil pump ) is going to change the carburration - by definition !
