Has anyone fitted inline fuel quick disconnects to a 2MA / 1KT?

I am wondering why the pipes from the fuel tank are such a huge diameter compared to the one to the carbs?

As the fuel tap outlet sits below float bowl height I am wondering if this is some Physics related shit to do with having enough pressure to get the fuel to the carbs, but my simple GCSE maths tells me as long as the fuel tank is higher it should be OK.

I am fed up with spilling fuel each time I take the tank off, and figured these QD jobbies would be a great ide and make tank removal easier. cleaner and less smelly in future.

I did notice it is possible to get the fual tap out with the tank if you take t off its mounting bracket and then feed it under the frame rail, but that is fiddly to do whlst holding the tank up etc

Hi
Iv been using those on my 3xv road bike and on my 3xv race bike for past few years and never had any issues with them.
The race bike is fitted with 36mm carbs so fairly thirsty  and iv  never had an issue with fuel flow .

Thanks, I have ordered some ready, may wait until Dyno-Day in a couple of weeks and try them while it is being setup, pretty sure Andy will have some spare fuel pipe if it fucks it up - or know the low down before I chop the line in half ;-)

In theory once the new electronics / pipes etc are fitted and the bike is setup on Dyno in theory the tank whould not come off very often after that, in theory has often failed the test of reality IMHO.

which ones are you running to accommodate 10mm line?

Found some on E-Bay that say they fit 8mm Nylon and 10mm Rubber lines, not sure why they would be that different between the two meterial types.

Not sure if they will fit until they arrive, hoping they are big enough, may need some jubilee clips perhaps?

Yup, fitted some in 2001 on a track bike for the same reason of spilling fuel. They've been great.

I use them on the road bike now.

They were just the cheap fuel resistant plastic types.

I use 8mm fuel hose with a same-sized QD connector on my 2XT/2AW, although I have converted to an on-off-reserve ZXR750 fuel tap. Two lines run from the tank outlet to the tap, then one line from the tap to the QD connector, then to a splitter with a line to each carb.
I find this arrangement easier when removing the tank - there is no need to pull fuel lines off stubs anywhere and the QD connector prevents any significant fuel spillage/loss.

Luckily the 8mm fuel line I use was able to fit over the tank outlet stubs (and carb inlet stubs) without much trouble. It appears that this arrangement allows sufficient fuel flow, although there was a little trial and error involved in arriving at suitable route and length for the lines.

I would recommend a fuel flow check before using a QD connector though - just make sure there is no significant difference in flow between a fuel line with and without the QD connector fitted.

James
