Hi all, have replaced the shift shaft today   all went well until I had to torque down the clutch springs  bolts 8nto the pressure plate.Manual said 7nm,  5.1 ftlb so I set the torque wrench to 5 nm and  sheared off the bolt in the clutch housing, luckily I managed to tap out the broken bolt from out of the clutch boss. Have ordered some new bolts from yambits,  what torque do you recommend as 7nm seemed to be doing them up forever.  Any tips ? Cheers Dave

Did you do them in stages diagonally? Manual says 2-3 steps of slowly tightening each one and eventually get to the right torque.
They will do up a lot whilst they compress the springs.

Hi pnicho, yes I did only tighten them half a turn each time opposite bolt to opposite bolt I suppose they are possibly nearly 40 year old bolts so maybe weakened  after all the heat cycles and over the years     ?:-|

Yeah possibly. :(

Hope you get it sorted.

Well I recieved my new clutch spring bolts from yambits, and rather than use a torque wrench to tighten them up just used a spanner and when they stopped doing up did  just a tiny bit more to cinch them up and they seem fine . Didn't want to risk sheering another bolt.
The new shift shaft seems to work fine as well :D
