Are 3xv-8 speed restricted?read a few post saying 180kph restricted electronically?

JKV45

That's a good question!

As a 3XV newbie, I would like to know the answer as well.

ALL 3xvs are restricted to 112mph/180 kph.
There are many many threads on here and the old forum discussing everything about the topic.
The reason is Japanese laws at the time.

Basically there is a restriction in the clocks, once the 112mph/180kph is reached the spark is sort of suspended to stop anymore speed.
Secondly the ECU is governed to again restrict anything above those speeds.

There were many derestricting kits available to proddy racers in Japan at the time but it depended upon your skill etc.

Someone here will give better info or better still look up the older posts.

I personally have got round the Speedo restriction by fitting a device to change the kph to mph, meaning that my speedo reads in mph so the likelihood of achieving 180mph is impossible lol.
And if course the differences in r, rs ,rsp and spr barrels and air filter boxes etc.
Finally theres zeetronic (completely new ECU box totally programmable) to remove the restriction altogether if you wanna go down 'that' route....

What can you tell me about the device to change kph to mph?

I didn't find anything with a search.

I'm really not that concerned about the top speed, but having it read mph would be a lot handier in the US.

Thanks.

Talking about one of these but they haven't been made in a long while. Used to be all over ebay now I can't find any.

JKV45

As you said - they don't seem to be around anymore.

I did find this, but not as slick as the one you have -

Not sure if it would work.

This is the exact one I have and a simple Google search found it ..
It fits to the bottom of the cable by the wheel NOT at the clocks, blue top, gold bottom..

I did see those, and a few other similar ones.

They don't seem to be available anywhere, though.

@Neilj Here is the ancient thread :

And the pic in question :)

I would probably skip modifying the speedo to be honest. A stock 3xv doesn't really have enough hp to make it to 180kph. You're better off with a Zeeltronic or Sugo CDI which ignores the restriction.

Pics of you bike? I always like seeing other 3xv8's

Does anyone know anything about this seller?

The site seems a little sketchy.

Under "Choose Size" woman's clothing sizes come up.

Thanks.
