Looking for recommendations for petrol tank decals, need to be in black. Any ideas?

James P

Ricky,

Are these the black "Yamaha" decals for the 2AW Marlboro tank (Part No.2AW-24161-00)? If so, they are still available from Yamaha. The price (in Japan) is 853 Yen each.

Alternatively, there are several Ebay sellers offering similar decals, assuming they are available in the correct size. I do have a Marlboro tank, but can't check the size of the decals at the moment as it is in storage elsewhere. Let me know if you need any measurements.

Regards,
James

They are the black ones, was trying to avoid paying over £30 for 2 decals, will hunt ebay for a cheaper option, I do have an original tank to take measurements.
Could you possibly measure the 'tzr250' for the rear panel? and possibly the 'Marlboro' decals? looking at getting these back on the bike :)

I haven't got them to hand, but should be able to check sometime over the next few days - watch this space!

OK Ricky, I have made some measurements. I haven't included any photos because I'm sure you know what the decals look like. However, let me know if anything is not apparent from my explanation.

"TZR250" seat side panel decals

LH 2AW-21781-00
RH 2AW-21782-00

The "TZR" portion is made from individual cut vinyl letters, whereas the "250" portion is a single printed decal (white numbers on red background). Both sides are NLA from Yamaha.
If you could draw an imaginary parallelogram around the extremities of the entire "TZR250" decal assembly, its length would be 225mm. The perpendicular height is 42mm, while the angular height is 46mm (the angle is about 65/115 degrees).
When comparing the LH and RH decals, they are angled opposite ways (hence the differing part numbers).

"Marlboro" fairing side decals

2AW-28328-00 (same for both sides)

This decal is made up entirely from cut vinyl letters. It is NLA from Yamaha.
The decal is placed in two halves "Marl" and "boro". The height of the "M", "l" and "b" is 68mm. The height of the other lower case letters is 48.5mm.
If you could draw an imaginary rectangle around the extremities of each of the two halves of the decal, the "Marl" portion would measure 140.5mm long. The "boro" portion would measure 139mm long.
As you likely know, there is a Marlboro font available (I found it somewhere on the internet, but can't remember where). If you use this font, you should be able to just set the height of the "M" and the spacing of the letters to arrive at a decal with the correct dimensions.

Let me know if you need any more info or measurements. Also let us know if you are successful in having these decals remade!

James
