Hi,

Anyone know how to find out how many models of bikes were made and are left?
I found this but no TZR250s on there : https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/browse

Interested to see how many of each got made and are left in the world and UK!

Cheers

Jim

I often wonder myself. Resources lists how many were made of some models, some 1000 made some 500, if a model was only 500 made and alot have been parted out or crashed, there may be less than 100 worldwide, hard to say

I only know of one TZR250 / 2MA in the merseyside / south Sefton area,

I did see another one about 10 years ago in my neck of the woods
But that was a one off.

I think the that when they were first sold
They were criplingly expensive, so few got sold.
Most went to newly licensed riders
And soon got pranged,
Also like the LC350's they were very popular with the bike thrives also being pranged
By the thieves and joy riders,
Or broken for parts to fix the legal ones that had earlier been pranged.

Not many left now,
And becoming more of a classic,
more so than the more expensive 3XV's

i think ill update this as i go and put it somewhere else. but seeing as i typed it out now i may as well stick it in here.

with the 125's there are 4 main tzr models. And each model has its own variant's. they are completely different bikes apart from the RR which is really just a revised R and both come under the model type 4dl.

1988 - 1990(3fn) made in spain
1988  tzr 125
1989  tzr 125 revised version. disc brakes and mag wheels

1991 -1995 (4DL) all 4dl are made in italy

1991 TZR 125 (R) only available in silky white and red with polished frame
1992 TZR 125 (R) (SP) produced in limited numbers. different airbox, cylinder and head, servo, cdi, exhaust, engine cases (reed block) gear ratios, paint scheme, adjustable forks
1992 TZR 125 (R) now also available in black and grey with black frame and black wheels
1993 TZR 125 (R) Red rocket malboro paint scheme. black frame and wheels only. also had black fork bottoms. this version adressed vibration and carb

1994 TZR 125 (RR) this is a revised version of the R with a lot of changes. gear ratios, seat, fairings, swing arm, exhaust, airbox, scheme. (still files under model 4DL)

The TZR-R remained in production until 1994 when it was replaced by the TZR-RR.  According to Yamaha sources, a total of 9877 Yamaha Belgrade 4DLs (in all versions and therefore including the SP) were produced between 1991 and 1995.

after this came the next model ( 4fl ) 125

I know nothing about how many 250's were produced  and i know nothing about the 250 except that i want one.
i dont know how to find out how many are left. seems like it would be a pretty long winded investigation. but ima have a pop anyway with the 4dls because we know roughly how many were produced.

by my powers of guesstimation im going to say theres about 3150  4dls left and roughly 128 world wide in a usable state. either broke destroyed or teenager trashed

Yes great post! Anyone care to braindump on 3MAs/3XVs or maybe we just apply the same logic... up to 500 of the common models and 100 of the SPs still knocking around - so 3000 or so globally? Not bad considering.

I believe 94 RS & 94 SP were 500 made, both my RS vins are within the 500 range, ive also checked with 2 others being sold ,and they were within 500 also. You rareley  see 3xvA/B being sold, but there seems to be tons of SPR about, my theory is that the SPR was the end of the production run and they had a shit load of parts to use up so Yamaha did a bigger run of them( again a complete guess ,but makes sense)

no smoke no poke

more tzr 125s than that i know of 2rk 2rh 3pc1-2-3s just off the top of my head

there all first generation codes. so all file under that. But there all the same 2 first generation model.  shall we work on a model guide and make it as complete as we can?

Jim,

This may give you some insight into the 'How many were made?' question:

http://pure2strokespirit.net/forums/index.php?topic=3454.msg38030#msg38030

To give a further example; The Frame Number List shows that the 3MA1 model was allocated frame numbers from 000101 to 046000. Does this mean that 45900 3MA1s were made during only one year (or less) of production? I would tend to think not, but would be interested to hear from anyone with more detailed insight.

Number ranges for 'special export models' may be a little more realistic, such as those for the 2MY model (the Oceania version of the 1KT). This was made for the years 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990. For 1987, the frame number range spans 1900 bikes. After that, it was 900 per year. However, I still think it doubtful that even these quantities were made.

It may be interesting to invite submissions from forum members; e.g. Who has the highest frame number for each model/version? This may give a reasonable indication of the numbers manufactured. There is also a way to find out the frame numbers of bikes sold at auction in Japan (which would give further useful data)...but I can't remember how to do it :-[ .

Regards,
James

RUS.3MA

Hi all ;)
I think it makes sense to write an official letter to Yamaha asking for the number of copies of 3MA produced. If they have an archive, then I think they will share this information, it's not a secret.

I personally have 2 motorcycles, frame number 3MA-0005** and 3MA-005***

I dont really trust the site 'how many left'

I have a bike, apparently the only one on the road. I taxed it last year......but the website shows only one on the road for the last five years.....so who ever had one taxed for the last 4 years must have taken it off the road the exact same 1/4 year that I taxed mine???? Nah!! To coincidental if you ask me. I might take mine off the road and see if it drops to 0 😅😂
