As the title says, I am wanting to build up a bike and have both a 4DL and a 4Fl chassis to use, but was wonderign which o fthe two ultimately is the better bike - plan is a DT230 engine, so would go straight in either.

Need4speed

I would use the 4DL - reason: among other things rear swing arm... frontfork
4 Strokes are full of parts - 2 strokes are full of speed...

I agree with N4S, but you also can upgrade the 4FL e.g. with a 3XV fork.. But to get a better swing arm, you might need to invest how far you can get with e.g. a 3MA swing arm..

Not familiar with either. I have a 3MA1 and also a 4DP1 TZ and I will never outride either chassis. Proper setup for the rider is the main thing.

Good idea gonna do that probably with those 125 4dl parts and that 3ma frame.
My friend has is about halfway there.

I'd probably be putting the 4DL forks on it as I have a couple of sets and no 4fl. Wonder if a decent shock on the back would help.
The 4DL would maybe get a 350 engine . all these projects and no time!

Maxton over in your area. Expect close to $1,000 or more depending on options. I am sure you could go cheaper but again depends on how you are going to ride. Do not try something off another bike that will fit because the valving will not be correct for a lighter bike.

#7
if you go with the 4DL-SP parts you will have all you need
and the intake volumen you cannot have from the 4FL
4 Strokes are full of parts - 2 strokes are full of speed...

Are you sure the DT230 engine will actually go straight in Dave? I can't say it won't, but my earlier research suggested that TZR125 and SDR200 engine cases used the same mounting points (and are thus interchangeable), but that DT200 and WR200 engines (despite having mostly interchangeable internals) had different mounting points. I have an idea that the DT230 used similar engine mounting points to the DT200 and WR200, but I'm unsure whether they are/were exactly the same. I have seen a DT230 engine fitted to an SDR200, so it is possible with suitable adaptors etc.

Of course, if you have done all the necessary research and found it to be a straight swap then go for it! Whatever the case, please let us know how you get on.

James

Yes it fits

A French shop "AEB-developpement" did a swap with DT230 Lanza or its clone from China

Yes....

The TZR and SDR are like the old steel framed TZR. The later Ally framed TZRs basically use the DT125R engine, with it's different mounts. The 4FL mounts on the swingarm pivot, like the DT125R,and the 4DL has a mounting bracket between the frame and the engine. The DT, WR etc. share almost the same crankcases as the 125, the 230s have different crankcases (needed more meat for the crank) but the same mounting points. Those Chinese clones are basically the DT230 engine made under license.

Good to know - thanks for the info Dave.
