Evening all,

This has caught my eye so I spoke to the dealer today. Everything seams genuine to me, they bought it from someone that imported it and has gone through the bike. No paperwork but he assures me it's a very clean example.

Ebay add

Price seams fair just wondered if the forum expertise can spot anything untoward from the advert please?

Thanks in advance.

Good looker for sure, but if the engine is all original I would be concerned of it's propensity to grenade at this age.

No knowledge of this model, but 34 year old seals in an engine that has obviously sat unused for long periods - with an average mileage of 7 per week.

Personally I would want to have it stripped and rebuilt to be on the safe side, much cheaper to rebuild an engine that has not blown up than one that has, and you know you have another 10+ years / 10K+ miles before you should need to begin to worry about it - maybe twice that.

Agreed

It doesn't matter how pretty it is now. The old seals in the engine etc. They really need to be throughly gone over rebuilt. To be something you can safely enjoy for a long time. Not blow it up.

The bike certainly presents nicely, I want that screen  ;D

Something is up with the fairings though..it's not stock. The top fairing is an SP type and has been resprayed. The side panels looks fairly stock but has that 'pure 2 stroke spirit' label that shouldn't be there on this RS.

The tailpiece looks to have had the yellow numbers boards replaced and they are not quite the right shape. It's also missing the "pure 2 stroke spirit" label on the number board.

Also missing is the 'Yamaha' badge on the back of the tailpiece that keep the two halves together.

Thanks everyone.

Without relevant docs I agree you have to plan for a freshen up straight out. YBKs eagle eyes is exactly why I posted, id be mortified when it dawned on me that it had been messed with.

Thanks again folks, the search goes on   :)
