I thought I would just ask , what are my options with first gear . My bike has a dry clutch gearbox with a long first gear . Are there other boxes with a shorter 1 st gear ?
Thanks

Yes Neal,   the R gearbox cluster.   I run the R gearbox in my SP, it has first & second lower ratios.
It works for me and means I can run 15 countershaft 37 rear, easy.

Neal

you'll get used to it and the clutches are tough enough.

What final drive gearing are you using ?

If not I have a spare R gearbox

An RS has a dry clutch and the short first gear. :)

Neal

I am running a 14t front and a 42 rear , most probably may go up to a 43 but I can only be sure next time I ride the bike .

I may as you say get used to the longer 1st gear , if I don't adapt I will try another gearbox or parts to see how we go .

Sorry to trainspot (I noticed this in the workshop manual the other day):

Gear3XV13XV23XV63XV9
135/13=2.69233/14=2.35735/13=2.69267/26=2.576
231/16=1.93730/17=1.76431/16=1.93737/14=2.642(*)
332/21=1.52325/17=1.47032/21=1.52332/21=1.523
424/19=1.26324/19=1.26324/19=1.26324/19=1.263
525/22=1.13625/22=1.13625/22=1.13625/22=1.136
624/23=1.04324/23=1.04324/23=1.04324/23=1.043
(*) I think this might be a typo in the 3XV6-9 workshop manual.

So I think R, RS and (early?)SP boxes are different. The RS has two different cogs and the (early?)SP three.

I'll get me coat.... ::)

Neal

Thanks for the comparisons

generally on Sp's its the 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears that are differently ( I haven't compared all models)

Neal - I run 16/39 so you won't want to try my first gear take offs  ;D

Is your tuning still bog standard ??
Plus ce la change, plus ce la memchose

Neal

Wow 16/39 ! Ok I should not complain .
The bike has all the race kit on it so not "standard" but I feel I could play with the heads a bit .

It does lift once I get going and it was giving a few tank slaps out of T1  :)
