It's done this 5 or 6 times now over the last couple of years. It starts ok, rides ok, then after around 200 yards dies. It feels fuel related as it can be coaxed a bit with the throttle to keep it running but only very briefly.

It runs flawless the rest of the time, it's only a problem when it's been parked somewhere sunny. I did 85 miles on it last Sunday without a hint of a problem, then parked it outside of work in the sun on Tuesday and it died twice on the short ride home.

On a couple of occasions there's been a rush of air type noise when opening the petrol cap, but I alternated sprays of carb cleaner and wd40 through the cap and it hasn't done it since, on Tuesday I opened the cap and listened for it carefully before setting off and again after it died and it didn't make a sound. I've ordered a cheap basic keyless cap to rule it out. The current cap is the original but it has a seal from a cheap copy fitted to it.

I'd start with checking if it's venting properly. Vent could be clogging. Petrol cap could be failing needing rebuilt.

My friends 2ma we call it moaning mertle when it's hot out. It let's out these moaning sounds from the petrol cap.

Thanks SeaR1ck, good to get a second opinion to know I might be on the right track. I've had the cap apart before but I can't picture how it's supposed to vent, I'll fit the keyless one then pull the original apart.

yeah, that would be where i would look. one of the 1st things i did was take the tank vent apart on my 1kt as ive been bit by that before. i also opened up the vent holes a tad.

The channel in the cap was totally blocked. I also left out the two little red rubber one way valves since I'd split them both anyway, I didn't know they were there when I ran a dremel bit through the vent holes to clear them. It should be ok, it might just add a bit more fumes to the garage.
