Hands up I won the eBay thing. I wasn't sure I really wanted it but put in what I thought it was worth and won the auction

My thinking was when I bought my RS it did 20 miles before eating the crank and a piston. I paid top dollar for it (at the time) and instantly had to spend £2k on the motor.  Shit happens.

So I really can't be any worse off than I was back then but my starting point is a lot (lot) less money. However as we all know parts have gone up in price and are a lot less available

If it all goes belly up I can always break it and move it all on

Pics looked like it was a fair base for a nice project, but I guess you'll have a better idea once you've looked through it all and assessed condition and what's missing. Fair price though I reckon, considering....  (-P)

Nice, whats the plans for it?

mellorp

A quick check of the boxes and the main bits missing are air boxes and a front end. I'll pop some forks in I have lying around, and make it a rolling chassis, dry fit it together and make a plan. That could be build it or move it on.
The motor I'll rebuild and probably keep as a spare for the road going TZ.

I've fitted some GSXR yokes with forks that I had lying around. I've sourced some 3XVR forks but they are more basic than the GSXR ones, but I'll see how the GSXR stuff looks. The advantage is the GSXR has a 3.5" wheel bigger disks and the forks have rebound and compression damping. Some other 3XV stuff is on order from Japan along with the ubiquitous SP crank from Webbs. Getting it rolling this quick will be a big plus.

Did you reweld the stem or did the fork tubes fit?. Are they longer than the stuck ones?

mellorp

The GSXR stem was longer. I also had some ZXR636 yokes (with radial brakes) to try, which was a bit short but would fit (just). I used a tapered bearing at the bottom but needed  a thrust ball bearing on the top and a few spacers to get the GSXR yokes to fit. I've not measured the forks as yet. Hopefully they are longer and I just drop them through the yokes. It's all a bit "dry fit" at the moment until I make a decision on what to actually use.

If there is any interest I  might sell this before I get started. See the for sale section

Has anyone successfully retro fitted a front end? Sounds like you were close  ???

I fitted the GSXR bottom yoke (with std. stem) no problem using some different bearings and spacers. All bought from Simply Bearings. If it has a longer than std. stem then you can make anything fit.

I suppose it's a lot easier for the track than having to macgyver the speedo  ::)

Good luck with the sale, looks like all the bits pretty much - just add time  (-P) SP Crank & Wossners is a bonus

Last chance to buy this project before I kick it off and get the thing built

Nice little winter project for you phil  ;)
Plus ce la change, plus ce la memchose

You're probably correct. I moved all the boxes to the "next project" location. I can't walk past it now without tripping over the thing. I was amazed at how complete it is, especially the box of brackets, compared to some of the other projects I've done.

Yes,
the availability of those little brackets can make or break this era of project bikes.
